Hey HN, A long time ago, due to the lack of viable solutions with E2EE and offline-first syncing, I decided to dedicate my time to making one (which has its own story: https://yaad.one/blog/yaad-story). In the course of ~3 years, I developed a knowledge management app with these primary features: - Primitives: Notes, Tasks, Contacts - Grouping with "Boxes" - Offline-first - Multiplatform; currently available for Android, Windows (x64), macOS, and Linux (ARM). - Fully end-to-end encrypted (AES-256-GCM) - 13 Languages, 8 calendar systems - Light & dark mode Last night, I…

Kimi K3 has 2.78 trillion parameters and ships as 1.42 TB of weights. It clearly does not fit in the memory of a laptop. But K3 is a Mixture-of-Experts model. For each token, only a small fraction of its 896 experts per layer is activated. That changes the problem: the entire model does not need to be resident in RAM, as long as the weights required by each token can be reached quickly enough. We built WASTE — the Weight-Aware Streaming Tensor Engine — to explore that idea. WASTE keeps the dense, repeatedly used part of the model resident in memory, stores the routed experts in an…

Sign, authenticate and encrypt with a USB dongle at the cost of a soda. The goal here was to easily program around ~20 Gnuk devices at the budget of a single dongle of the commercial solution. Contains every step and fixes to get it running on current and next Ubuntu and Debian versions.

Hi HN, I recently got the AnkiMobile app for iOS for Mandarin. It was buggy and feature-lacking in my opinion, so I made a nice looking Anki-compatible alternative app, with more features. It uses a tuned FSRS5 algorithm and supports image occlusion out of the box. You can import your existing Anki decks into it or create a new one. Pretty quick to add cards with the image feature. I'm using it right now and will add more to it so let me know what you think. FYI, it has a one-off purchase of $14.99 to unlock it for lifetime (no taksies backsies) after a test period of seven days.

I know everyone is a bit burned out on blockchain and cryptocurrency related stuff around these parts, but I've been working on as a side project for the last few months and thought you guys might be interested: https://cryptoempire.io/ It's still a bit buggy and incomplete (the mobile ux needs a lot of work, the leaderboard isn't functional yet, etc.), but I've reached a point where I'm not totally ashamed of sharing it :) Any feedback would be most welcome!
