The homeschool curriculum kids actually ask for

I built this customizable literature-based K-12 homeschool curriculum, based on my experience as a homeschool parent. It's designed especially for intellectually curious kids who love to read. One of the main benefits of homeschooling is the ability to design customized programs of study that let kids learn at their level of challenge in each subject. But since designing custom curricula from scratch requires a huge time commitment and familiarity with children's literature and academic materials, most homeschooling parents don't take advantage of this potential and instead opt for…

Hi everyone, Great Books Homeschool has just released this free tool for generating high school transcripts using the standard American unweighted GPA system. It's available to the public at no cost, and no account creation is required. These are both resources that would have saved me time as a new homeschooling parent, and I hope they are helpful to others. Comments and feedback are welcome!

I wanted to find an iPad game where my 5yo could learn math, which sounded simple. Turns out most kids' educational apps are... shady. Notifications, streak mechanics, ads for games definitely not meant for children, coin systems and flashy rewards designed to maximize engagement rather than learning. So I decided to vibe code something for her. The result is Lumi. It's a simple math app with: - No ads, no accounts, no tracking - No notifications - No coins, streaks, or variable reward nonsense - Daily limits (because kids should go play outside) - Works offline, stores everything locally -…

I wanted to share a project that I've been working on designed to help young kids go from reading single words to reading whole books. My husband and I started spending a lot of time teaching our 5-year-old (Alex) to read because our school district is exclusively doing remote learning and I was skeptical that he could learn to read over Zoom. We used flashcards (which Alex found boring) and then combined them into sentences (which Alex found interesting). But the sentence approach requires a lot of arranging pieces of paper and remembering which words you are working on. So I developed…

Over the holidays I went looking for a reading app for my 4-year-old daughter. The top app in this space charges $500/month. Since that's a bit much to pay for an app, I figured I could vibe code something better in a few days, so I tried. The app uses DISTAR phonics, which is a method from the 60s by Siegfried Engelmann. The core idea is simple: teach sounds before letter names, then blend sounds into words, then words into sentences. There's a specific sequence that builds on itself. On top of that I added spaced repetition, same algorithm as Anki. Cards come back at increasing…

Hi! I have a 3-yo child that loves bedtime stories and I built an app for him that has evolved a lot during the last 5 months. The main features are: - Personalised stories with your own character names, topics (emojis) and moral - Interactive mode, which is like the "Choose your own adventure" books I used to read in the 80s - Image generation (DALL-e 3) - Text-to-speech (Google TTS) - Supports 5 languages: EN, ES, PT, FR, NO I'd love to see some feedback about the app functionality and how to find a suitable business model (that covers API expenses). Thanks in advance!
