Products that do what Mercurio, the deployment black box does
I built mercurio the deployment black box. It is meant to be easy to assemble, reusable between projects and fun!

Hi guys, I've created an open source web builder framework (https://grapesjs.com) years ago, which I'm still maintaining, and now I'm excited to publish a side project based on it, Grapedrop (https://grapedrop.com). It's a simple web page builder which allows you to design and publish your web pages very quickly. The project is still in beta with a lot of stuff to improve but I'd really like to share it and hear what people think about it and maybe also get some constructive feedback.

I've built a thing! A few months back someone (not me) posted my Mac app Droplings to HN. It was incredibly rough around the edges back then, and in alpha. Well, it's finished now and sparkles like crazy. Please take a look! :)

This is the thing I've been busy with for the past 18 months, over which it has grown from a skunkworks project into a real-world product. This is going to be my first microISV and even if it's a colossal commercial failure, I'm looking forward to the experience of product development. To ship HgLab, I first effectively rewrote Mercurial Core in C# (https://bitbucket.org/hglab/hgsharp), and then built on that to first deliver a bare-bones read-only repository browser and then a full-fledged Mercurial Server. I'm open to any kind of feedback. And wish me luck!

Hey everyone! My name is Will. I’ve been leading engineering teams for over two decades. Also, first time HN user here! One of the common pains I’d encounter in nearly every product I managed was alerting end users to infrequent events like outages, global announcements, beta launches, planned maintenance, etc. We’d always need to deploy custom, one-off modals or other alerts and then have to remember to revert them later. It was always a time sink for a developer to put aside what they were working on to make this happen. This Is Not A Drill! is a simple-to-install JS SDK that makes it…

I've always dreamed about a project like that when looking at status boards at other companies. We finally had the time to do our own. Here are some photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/robert_olejnik/sets/72157633736087905/ The stack: Django, mustache.js, Chart.js, Bootstrap and custom Supybot plugin. Maybe will be inspiration for someone else ;-) Do you guys have similar status boards? Cheers, Robert.

If you ask why there was .hg and .hgignore in a Git repository, it's because I completely forgot this project is my first ever project using Mercurial as SCM. As such, I foolishly `git init` the repository and have to update both .gitignore and .hgignore to finish the changes. You can also see the Mercurial version of this thing at here: https://hg.sr.ht/~tsukii/robin

Hi HN! I've posted this a few weeks back without much HN traction - today we've added a free community tier, so anyone can try it out. TL;DR: We’ve launched StableBuild, a new tool to easily freeze and pin Docker images, operating system packages, Python packages, and arbitrary build dependencies; in 5 lines of code: https://stablebuild.com . As the CTO at an ML startup w/ 75 people (https://edgeimpulse.com/) I’ve grown incredibly frustrated with non-deterministic builds. Last year basically every week one of our containers (we have 40+ unique ones in prod)…

Hi HN, A lot of the dev teams I have worked with had a lot of issues with their documentation. In fact, some of my easiest clients to get were from clients that had "black box" solutions that devs no longer at the company had created. Personally, writing documentation is like grinding nails on a chalkboard. I have been having a lot of fun with building solutions that can run in a distributed way, not something a dev needs to run themselves. And after a significant amount of testing and building out several different solutions, I finally have a solution that is easy to set up and runs in the…

Hey, I've shared this game while it was still a work in progress in one of the Tell HN threads. I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of people tried it, and I got some positive feedback and constructive criticism. Anyway, I found a gamedev library I really like - Kaplay [1]. What I like about it is that easy things are easy. Meaning I could have fun building the game without learning (or fighting) a new tool. I always wanted to make games, but this is the first one I actually did. And I have to tell you - game development sparks joy! It combines so many things (game design, programming,…

Been using it for about a year now in production, but rewrote it completely in golang. My first go project so far. I wanted to have something that would make my life easier. A lot of tools nowaday kinda push you towards functional deployments and that usually doesn't work for me since I like stuff like LiveView by Phoenix and Websocket stuff in general. Old vercel deployments back when they allowed to deploy docker containers was a godsend, but since they don't offer that anymore I had to use services like fly.io(which is amazing) or heroku. However I wanted something selfhosted that I could…

We did a "Show HN post" 6 months back of our startup and we're very excited to show everyone how far we've come as well as the lessons we've learnt so far! It's been a roller-coaster so far and we think there's lot more of the same to come! We did apply for Ycombinator funding but got turned down :( But may re-apply soon :) For those that don't know, our startup is called Scirra and we make Construct 2 which is an HTML5 game engine (http://www.scirra.com). Our engine allows anyone to make HTML5 games without knowing any programming. It's only me and my brother working on this and we're based…

Hi HN, I built smollaunch.com, a lightweight launch platform for developers who want to share projects without the noise, voting games, or marketing theatrics of bigger launch sites. I’ve shipped a lot of small tools and noticed that most launch platforms are built around growth-hacking rather than genuine discovery. Many devs just want a clean place to publish something they built and get feedback from peers who care about the craft. So I made a simpler version of that. What it does: - Post your project with a short description and link - Get a clean, minimal launch page and profile - Other…

Hey HN, After GPT-3 created waves in the tech industry, a lot of AI tools were emerging and with that, some AI website builders But the results seemed way too generic to us. It felt like the developers were rushing to catch the wave instead of building a proper tool We took our time, did months of RnD and finally came up with something better than what others in the market are doing. It’s got better design output. While it’s still in beta, I wanted to show HN what we did. Will appreciate the feedback when you guys try it out. Here is the link to signup for the beta:…

Made this during COVID. I was into PICO-8 at the time and saw someone ported DOOM to it. I'm more of a text adventure guy, so I decided to port ADVENT. Basically I wrote a FORTRAN-to-Lua transpiler. The hardest part was figuring out what version of FORTRAN the source code was written in, finding a manual, cramming it into the limited cartridge space, but most of all, wrapping my mind around the data file format. Always admired Will Crowther for making this. Very fun project. I recorded myself during the whole process but I never posted a video. Future work maybe.

Hi HN! I've been working on Mesh, and I think it is time to it with you guys. Building on Cardano is difficult, because it lacks documentations and proper SDKs. This is where Mesh fills in this gap. With those beginner guides, is incredibly easy to get started, removing the pain of getting the simplest things to work. It is well engineered, the cloest "competitor" package size is over 10MB, while Mesh is less than 300KB, thus its light weight and your dApp will run fast. It is well documented and flexible, so you can build any dApp you can imagine. From the way the code is written to the way…

Hi all! I've built a small tool to visualize how inefficient `docker pull` is, in preparation for standing up a new Docker registry + transport. It's bugged me for a while that updating one dependency with Docker drags along many other changes. It's a huge problem with Docker+robotics. With dozens or hundreds of dependencies, there's no "right" way to organize the layers that doesn't end up invalidating a bunch of layers on a single dependency update - and this is ignoring things like compiled code, embedded ML weights, etc. Even worse, many robotics deployments are on terrible internet,…

Hi HN! We're excited to announce the public beta of Mowgli, a spec-backed, AI-native design canvas for scoping and ideating on products. The productivity gains unleashed by coding agents have made everything else an unexpected bottleneck. In an effort to make the most out of this new paradigm, we ceded a lot of ground in product thinking, thoughtful UX, and design excellence. In other words, the pace of tooling for deciding what to build has not kept up. Mowgli is inspired by, in equal parts, Figma and Claude's plan mode. It evolves a detailed specification and designs for every screen and…

Hey HN! I’m one of the co-founders of Ampersand and we’re excited to launch our developer docs today! Ampersand is built for SaaS engineers who want to: - Read data from their customers’ SaaS (e.g. Salesforce, Hubspot). - Write data to their customers’ SaaS. - Subscribe to events happening in their customers’ SaaS (including creates, deletes and field updates). We feature a Terraform-like declarative interface for defining integrations, embeddable UI components for your users to set up and manage their integrations, and a management console for your team to monitor and troubleshoot. We’re…
