It's up and running at : http://www.waywn.com/ The gist of the app is building a community around fashion that fits an individual's style. Understandably, there are similar applications that have launched recently, but we feel that ours is distinct enough to still have a valuable place in the fashion ecosystem. The biggest difference from ours and sites such as Pose, Fashism, Tryiton, Lookbook, etc. is that we want to capture a lot of the forum based discussions and create a community out of them. The existing sites tend to skew heavily female (to the point where the design often alienates…

this project started at a local hackathon and I spent another 4 or 5 weekends polishing it up. My girlfriend, who I brought along to the event, said she was getting 'tired of her friends asking her what she will be wearing tonight or the brand of the foundation she is using right now'. A digital wardrobe, for the lack of better words. It was a fun project and some of the early adopters are her friends. And since this site is more female oriented, here's my manly profile: http://re.mu/alvin I highly recommend bringing your significant other to a hack event.

"I love the creativity already." It'll say the same thing for any terrible idea. Try street carts serving dog shit picked off the street, babysitting service using sex offender felons since they'll work for cheap so they can be around underage kids, airplane where customers flap the wings using pulleys to get a workout so it's like a gym and travel in one, saving time - any terrible idea you can think of. ChatGPT will give you instant praise.

Lately I've been thinking about the mix CDs I used to burn for friends. Building the perfect mix for someone took a lot of time and intention, but it was a great way to expose friends to the rare musical gems I'd discovered, and sometimes, they even returned the favor. In the transition from physical mixtapes to cloud-hosted playlists, we stopped giving each other digital things. These days, we mostly point to things that we don't control. But our custom of gift-giving can be restored, if we restore the structures that enabled it. [name redacted] is my answer to this problem. Drop some .mp3s…

Hey HN, I've been a long time HN reader and here is my first contribution. Hoodsup.me is a chat-based matchmaking app built on top of your Facebook social graph. It matchmakes you with people who are geographically close to you and with whom you share common points. You can optionally activate your webcam to talk face-to-face with your partner. Think of it as a Sonar meets a genital-free Chatroulette. I would love to get some feedback. It's only optimized for WebKit for now. No signup is required so just stop by and say hi! :) Clickable link: <a…

I've been experimenting with ways to increase AI adoption for non-technical people. Basically, all companies are pushing for AI because it's all over the news and they feel left behind but most people have no clue where to start. I think 90% of people (ie non coders) are sufficiently well served by using cowork instead of claude code or something similar. If we can get people from sales, customer support, marketing, etc to collaborate with skills and cowork to form a company brain, I think it's gold. So I think there's opportunity for the community to share skills that work well for 1000s of…

Hello. :) I've noticed for the last few years it feels like everyone has been saying the same thing, that social media got baaad, timelines feel hostile, nothing you see is actually from people you chose to follow, and every platform seems optimized for outrage, screenshots, and engagement bait rather than the original microblog ideas of the early 2010s I miss the 2010 social styles, where you have to share your @name with a friend IRL because search wasn't really search... A place where you followed people, saw what they wrote, stumbled into interesting discussions, and hashtags meant…

Hello, HN. I'm a long-time lurker here and this is my first Show HN (be gentle). I created Glue which is best described as "Twitter meets Tumblr meets Medium" which is longer than just saying another Twitter alternative but IMO not 100% accurate. I launched Glue in mid '21 and have been slowly iterating on it since. Glue lets you share text, photos, video, audio, code snippets, quotes or break out into a long-form blog post. Posts on Glue are called "Drops". Glue in action: - My profile: https://glue.im/noah - Audio:…

Hey HN peeps! I've been working on coverlettergpt.xyz for the past few weeks. It was recently featured in the IndieHackers newsletter[0] and is just shy of 900 users. You can use it to generate cover letters by copy & pasting the job description, uploading your CV/résumé, and changing a few settings. The app will then generate cover letters for you, which you can further edit with GPT. You can also manage your jobs, create multiple cover letters per job, and other fun stuff. I'm honestly quite surprised at the response to it, as it's "yet another GPT wrapper," but I've built in some…

For fun this Valentine's Day, a couple buddies and I decided to play around with the idea of digital Valentines. We cranked out the project in the month of January as a "nights & weekends" project. We'd love any feedback in general! Our next step is to figure a way to seed this in key communities, to see if it has any chance of taking off. The URL is www.1millionvalentines.com (or www.1MVS.com). Thanks!

Hey there HNers, First of all, apologies for the shameless "self-promotion" - just felt like sharing :-) I've just launched a very simple project on the e-commerce front and although I'm currently involved in a few "bigger and bolder" projects, decided to give this a go. It's a DIY e-commerce tool that allows people to setup stores on Facebook, for free. We started this project as a weekend hackathon to help a friend bring her products online and decided to turn it into a product, so there's still definitely a lot to be done. Apart from showing off, this thread is here to start a discussion…

My partner and I are developing an app at the moment which gives people the opportunity to crowdsource dating advice exclusively from people of the opposite sex. That is, women seek advice from men, and vice versa. The fundamental concept is to break down the barriers of communication between men and women and give people a more reliable source of advice than the usual channels such as friends - who can either be notoriously unreliable or sadly may not have the best intentions. People would post information anonymously about their situation by way of a short message and would also have the…

Problem: if you are LGBT and work in tech, there's a good chance you live in a place where offline options for meeting people are limited. Solution: www.popupgaybar.com, a location aware email list that makes it easy to find and create LGBT space pretty much anywhere. Not going to win any awards for cutting edge computer science, but it gets the job done. Check it out, and share with your homosexually inclined friends.

Try it at: ssh krnl.duetbrowser.com No sign up, totally free - no download. Let me know what you think. Prior art exists (brow.sh) but I wasn't satisfied with their graphical take. I wanted the raw, old skool terminal days of the early internet - BBS, and old green phosphor library comptuers - but running the modern web, with all the bells and jingle jangle whistles (JavaScript, etc). No funding, no VC, just 100% raw terminal fun. Not sure how long the demo will last, but try it out.

Hi HN, over the years of using the social media (Instagram, Pinterest, etc..), I’m quite weary of the trend that people tend to polish their content so well and post the perfect aspect of their lives. I feel like that I’m not one of them, and anything I post will be either not so polished to fit the “magazine” style of the community or so insignificant for anyone else to care about. Scrolling in those apps more and more and seeing more and more perfect lives, I feel like I was abused by those platforms and made me anxious about myself. I want an online space that can give my voice back,…

Friends, HNers , countrymen: tl;dr Employee Unions are dead (non-existent in tech). A collective where employees own shares in the company they work for should give a voice to the employees with the management. I am happy to launch Rank And File, a platform for employee activism. Think Institutional Investors but instead of suits, it is employees who own a large number of shares in their own company and act as a collective. R&F aims to provide a private forum for employees to discuss company policies and act as a platform where employees can connect with legal experts and activists who will…
