Products that do what My first weekend project-ThreeBar, a welcome bar for content promotion does
I've done a lot of standalone apps, but ThreeBar is my first service and "weekend project." I built it to take on a new type of project, but I've actually been using the service myself for a couple of months now on my own websites. ThreeBar is a "welcome bar" service. Essentially, you can customize a small bar with your own message, button, colors, and action to prompt your website's visitors to do "something." The bar will slide down from the top of the page, and your visitor can either click the button to go to a URL or dismiss the bar, in which case it won't be shown to them again. One…

I wrote this over the last couple of weeks using Rails 3, Twilio and a variety of Gems, putting in about 2 hours per day. I'd love any feedback from the HN community on any aspects of the site (design, API construction, documentation, marketing, pricing which is TBD). On a related note: I have to say that I'm really flying with Rails 3. Typically I roll with Django, but have been super impressed with the Rails 3. Feels really clean, and there are some Gems that make the more mundane parts of the webapp construction fun and agile: Haml/Sass, blueprint, Fancy-buttons, Devise. I'll probably…

http://hiphopblend.com The website is responsive, so check it out on tablet/mobile, too! I'm currently working on adding more features to the website. It's my first official project since I started to learn programming (PHP). I would love to get an audio player in the site, which would scrape the blogs for new audio, but I'm having some difficult getting there. I really appreciate any feedback about the site at all! A little about me: I've been making Wordpress sites at a digital agency for almost 9 months now (from scratch). A few months ago I became really interested in learning…

My weekend hack project was to put together a small web app for sharing links in the spirit of memepool.com. It uses a bookmarklet to let people clip interesting articles to share while reading and uses a subset of markdown to add links and blockquotes to posts. It also uses oEmbed to pull in content from popular sites (youtube, slideshare, vimeo, etc) and API integrations to show tweets. It was fun to build - I'd love feedback. Thanks! http://findsignal.com

I just built a website that lets users track the thanks they gave and received. It's a spare time project that I built for myself so it may contain bugs. It uses Facebook login because I didn't want to code a complete login system just for a weekend project. Let me know what do you think about it! http://thank.st

Check out my (sort-of) weekend project . . . And by weekend project, I mean something that I thought sounded like a small idea that I could throw together over one or two weekends, but ended up taking over six months. This is a bit of a long submission, but after lurking on HN for the last few years, I thought this might be a chance to contribute something back. I’m just going to briefly discuss why my “weekend project” took so long, and how I got where I am. The url is http://dudmail.com - it's a disposable email site. Similar in intention/scope to the many existing ones out there, but…

I was wondering whether it’s possible to successfully create a weekend project and if so, with which quality. Here at HN I’ve read many stories of random people (to me they are like teachers) creating “Show HN” projects in 48 hrs which are amazingly awesome and also hit the top site of HN. So here I’m presenting mine: http://keepandplay.com. This is actually not a weekend project, I tried for it to be, but I failed. It actually took me 5 days to have it as it is right now. So I’m still profoundly skeptic on how to realize a 48 hrs side project with the look and feel and quality I…

Here is the link: http://www.wikihowtodo.com I know a lot of geeks share the same dream -- build the next kick-ass todo-list/project management system. So do I. However, as I was quite positive that my web development skill is worse than 99% of developers' in this community, I decided to build something simple, useless but unique. So I built this. Basically it's a Wikihow scraper, nothing more. It gives you a place to store interesting Wikihow articles and yes, they are converted into todo lists. I know this site is not that good, but I still need your guys' feedback. For example, as I am a…
