A web platform I've written to make it easy for people to share goespatial time series data and display it on animated heatmaps. There's also a social media component that allows you to write comments, follow, share and like data sets that you want to engage with. You can also download the CSV data and embed animations into your own websites. People uploading datasets can also choose to make money by accepting donations. Please check out the home page for more details: https://mapipedia.com Here are some samples of things created with the platform (press the play button to start…

This is a service I've built to provide equirectangular cloud maps of the whole Earth, updated every 3 hours, for free. It's based on infrared and visible light data from EUMETSAT, processed to enhance the clouds and try to reduce the impact of surface temperatures on the final image. I built it because it's surprisingly hard to find these kinds of images in a format that's useful to developers and hobbyists. I was building a 3D ISS tracker and wanted to include live clouds but couldn't find anything good, so I got sidetracked, and here we are.

Hi HN, I built an OSINT tool called Weather2Geo that helps locate where a screenshot was taken based on the weather widget data visible (e.g. temp, condition, and local time in the taskbar). People often post these without realizing how specific those values can be in combination. It works by comparing the given weather condition, temperature, and time against current data from thousands of cities. It’s timezone-aware, supports fuzzy matching, and groups results geographically to reduce noise. It’s most effective on recent screenshots, ideally taken within the last hour—since weather and…

Hi HN, I am excited to share the new version of my weather API with you. It offers even more accurate forecasts than before, thanks to updates to our proprietary ML model. My weather forecast website initially started as a personal project. Later, it became more professional, and recently, we have evolved into an advanced weather API. Our goal from the beginning has been to offer affordable yet superior services. To achieve high accuracy, we incorporated machine learning into our calculations. Our forecasts pull data from multiple sources and use proprietary numerical weather models. These…

Hi HN, I’m Ignacio, founder at Basekick Labs. Over the past months I’ve been building Arc, a time-series data platform designed to combine very fast ingestion with strong analytical queries. What Arc does? Ingest via a binary MessagePack API (fast path), Compatible with Line Protocol for existing tools (Like InfluxDB, I'm ex Influxer), Store data as Parquet with hourly partitions, Query via DuckDB engine using SQL Why I built it: Many systems force you to trade retention, throughput, or complexity. I wanted something where ingestion performance doesn’t kill your analytics. Performance &…
