24 alternatives to My TUI library, PyTermGUI now features an intelligent layout system

This was by far the most common missing feature of the library since my first post, so I'm really happy I managed to figure it out. See the release for some code examples and a detailed changelog, and most importantly, have a great day!

PyTermGUI is a Python terminal user interface library that now includes an intelligent layout system. Designed for developers building text-based applications, it provides tools for creating structured terminal… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. PyTermGUI is a highly modular framework offering most of the features one would expect from a GUI library, such as a mature and open Widget API, animations, mouse support and other goodies, right inside the terminal! The markup language is another great feature of the library, and is used by practically all elements of it. It is based on Rich's implementation, but uses a more concise and easier to humanly parse syntax, while being over 10 times faster at parsing due to a long list of optimizations. There is a full Window Manager API included as well, allowing the user to move, resize and…

Hi all! A little background: I've been working on natto.dev, a spatial environment for JavaScript. I'm really excited about new interfaces for code (leveraging metaphors we're good at, spatial reasoning, making state visible, design tools, etc). With all the buzz around PyScript, I discovered Pyodide and got it working inside natto. This Python version is a stripped down version of https://natto.dev (eg interactive outputs, multiplayer) so please check that out if this interests you. I'm excited to share this spatial environment for Python. Imagine Jupyter cells arranged on a 2D…

Not sure if I would post this for the last day of #marchintosh OR wait for tomorrow the 1st of April. Both apply equally. Anyway, here's a pet project of mine, I made it as a glued on for another pet project of mine, but it developed a life of it's own now and can soar skyward toward success, fame, and glory.

Hi everyone! I've been working on a web search interface for Python's documentation as a personal project, and I think it's ready for other people to use... Please give it a go (and join me in praying to the server gods): https://pythondocs.xyz/ Here's the tech stack for those interested: - Parser: Beautiful Soup + Mozilla Bleach - Database: in-memory SQLite (aiosqlite) + SQLAlchemy - Web server: FastAPI + Uvicorn + Jinja2 - Front end: Tailwind CSS + htmx + Alpine.js I have ideas for future improvements but hopefully the current version is useful to someone. Let me know what…

Hi HN, Up to the middle of 2025, I was the CEO/CTO of a startup called Textualize. Somehow I had managed to land seed funding for my Python libraries for fancy terminal output. We wrapped up after three years because the funding ran dry. I honestly thought I was sick of coding at that point. But it turns out I was sick of the stress and working all hours. A few weeks rest was all I needed. It was about that time that coding agents exploded, and I could no longer ignore them. I wasn't impressed with the UI these tools offered. Having worked in the terminal for a few years, I knew you…

I’ve been working on gotui, a modern fork of the unmaintained termui, rebuilt on top of tcell for TrueColor, mouse support, and proper resize handling. It keeps the simple termui-style API, but adds a bunch of new widgets (charts, gauges, world map, etc.), nicer visuals (collapsed borders, rounded corners), and input components for building real dashboards and tools. Under the hood the renderer’s been reworked for much better performance, and I’d love feedback on what’s missing for you to use it in production.

Built this Python package because I wanted to run hardware controlling ML stuff and other control algorithms directly connected to industrial I/O hardware without jumping into annoying PLC toolchains (Windows only, licensing hassle, no editor choice, proprietary version control - you name it). For sure its not for ms‑cycle loops, or uptime critical production stuff, but in applications with relaxed timing it allows for fast iteration on the setup - making prototyping a pleasure. Its easy to use, has no dependencies beside Python, its fully type annotated and MIT licensed. Internal it…
