Products that do what Nova: Open-source solution for CAD file conflicts does

Hey HN, A friend at a hardware startup mentioned how their engineering team struggles with CAD file conflicts as PDM solutions are not affordable. Multiple engineers opening the same SolidWorks part = corrupted files and lost work. I was motivated and started building Nova. Nova is a open source file locking system, designed to support multiple CAD softwares with real time locking and live dashboard to keep design engineers in sync. Nova is built with python and Next.js. Get started with - git clone https://github.com/agg111/nova cd nova pip install -r requirements.txt…

Hi HN, I've been waiting to post what I've been working on for a few weeks now:) Today we're launching LayerVault, which is a version control system made for designers. The URL is http://www.layervault.com LayerVault keeps track of what you're working on without adding extra steps to your process. The app runs in your toolbar and tracks changes you make to your files. Basically — each time you create or modify a file you’re working on, LayerVault saves a copy. You can then login, flip through its versions, and download a version from a few weeks ago. It's pretty neat — and we’ve built some…

Hi, my name’s Arya! I’m a software engineer who loves to CAD and design cool things. Keaton, Roth, Clark, and myself have been building https://camfer.dev for the last year. We’re excited to show v0 of camfer - a tool that lets you use AI with your favorite CAD platforms. The camfer desktop app connects to Solidworks as a smart sidebar. Like Cursor for CAD. The tool takes in your CAD environment (open part + selections) and either answers questions or follows your instructions to create/edit designs natively in Solidworks. Download link:…

My friend and I have been working on Arcad for some months now. It's a free browser-based parametric CAD tool aimed at hobbyists and makers. It has editable feature history, solid modeling powered by OpenCascade, STEP export and touch controls for tablets, although it's primarily made for PC use. Everything runs in the browser and you can try it without creating an account or installing anything. Currently in beta although we feel like it's ready for a full launch. Any feedback is appreciated! Link: https://app.arcad.studio Docs: https://www.arcad.studio/docs

Hello Hacker News, I often hear people saying "all build-systems suck", an opinion I have been sharing for years, and this is the motivation for this project. I finally got the opportunity to make it open-source, and here it is. In a few words, it is like make, except it can be comfortably used even in big projects using HPC (with millions of jobs, thousands of them running in parallel). The major differences are that: - dependencies are automatically tracked (no need to call gcc -M and the like, no need to be tailored to any specific tool, it just works) by spying disk activity - it is…

Hi HN, Martin, Nils, and Jannes here. We are building Legit, an open source version control and collaboration layer for AI agents and AI native applications. You can find the repo here https://github.com/Legit-Control/monorepo and the website here https://legitcontrol.com Over the last years, we worked on multiple developer tools and AI driven products. As soon as we started letting agents modify real files and business critical data, one problem kept showing up. We could not reliably answer what changed, why it changed, or how to safely undo it. Today, most AI…

Hey devs :) With 15+ years of UI kit building & design systems, my team is launching a platform that allows developers to build consistent & fully functional UI kits / web projects in days, instead of months. Giving you best practices with the most advanced system design/system design for reusing UI components, combined with access to 500+ open-source components that you can build anything with. Yes it’s open source tech with no vendor lock. Which means you can export any part of your UI kit / project at anytime. Our goal isn’t to enhance your tech stack, not to lock you in.…

I'd like to share a new workbench I've been working on called DiffCAD. Coming from a software engineering background, not having the ability to properly diff my CAD model changes was driving me crazy. This project scratches my own itch, and maybe someone elses', too! I'm open to feedback, ideas, and contributions. Cheers!

devnexus is an open-source cli that gives agents persistent shared memory across repos, sessions, and engineers. It maps out dependencies and relations at the function level, builds a code graph, and writes it into a shared Obsidian vault that every agent reads before writing code. Past decisions are also linked directly to the code they touched, so no one goes down the same dead end twice. Still building it out but I would love to hear any thoughts/feedback

Hi. We just open sourced Bullet Train, a Feature Flag and Remote Config platform. It's a collection of tools: server API, admin front end and clients for a bunch of different platforms. Together they allow you to control feature flags and remote config across projects, environments and users. We realised that we were building ad-hoc feature flag stuff into individual projects over and over, so we had a look around to see if there was a way of doing this in a more formal manner. There are a few commercial solutions around but they were quite expensive and seemed to be aimed more at the…

https://github.com/seanwevans/lockstep I want to share my work-in-progress systems language with a v0.1.0 release of Lockstep. It is a data-oriented systems programming language designed for high-throughput, deterministic compute pipelines. I built Lockstep to bridge the gap between the productivity of C and the execution efficiency of GPU compute shaders. Instead of traditional control flow, Lockstep enforces straight-line SIMD execution. You will not find any if, for, or while statements inside compute kernels; branching is entirely replaced by hardware-native masking…
