Products that do what Olympiad Math Exercises for Grades 2-8 does

Hello HN, When my daughter was in 2nd grade, I signed her up for math contests as a last resort to spark her interest in learning math. It was a success - being surrounded by smart kids who earned medals for their hard work made her perceive being good at math as "cool." I started hosting math contests at my workplace for colleagues' kids, and my daughter eagerly participated in dozens of these through elementary and middle school, continuing to this day. The hard part was helping her prepare. One-off sessions wouldn't work - I needed a long-term system. I had to source problems and…

Hi All - I'm Eric, and I’ve been working on a math-tutoring application that continually adapts to a child’s learning needs as they answer questions: www.grokkoli.com/beta (introduces new concepts in granular steps, figures out where/how learners might be confused & attempts to resolve it, speeds kids past the stuff they understand clearly, tracks their recall, answer-speed, and more). Currently in beta, looking for families with kids in grades 1-6 to beta-test. Especially interested in taking on families that are finding math to be a challenge. Happy to share more details if…

Hi HN! We’re Devin and Aki. We made Pegasus to explore ideas on how to make learning more engaging. We were inspired by our own experience as students – we grew up being bored or disinterested with school, but found that friendly competition through our school’s math and science team was a great motivator for learning. Every day at midnight (PST), a new problem is released on pegasus.fm. As the first of many experiments we’re planning, we’d love to hear your feedback!

Hello All, After going through my daughters prep interview process, the teachers advised that she needed to sharpen up on her opposites. After searching the Google Play store and being a little disappointed at the state of the opposite games, I decided to create my own version for her (I also wanted an excuse to make a kids game :) So without further ado, I give you the opposites game! :) https://oppositesgame.com/ A couple of notes: * I didn't create a scoring system as I didn't want to give the sense of "pressure" in the game * A couple of ideas have popped up in my head…

I’m (re)building a tool to help elementary schools place students into classes (original app still uses jQuery… porting to React). Placing students into classes is kind of like a puzzle where the first kids are easy, but when you get close to the end, you realize your earlier placements need to be moved around endlessly. That’s why I wrote an algorithm to help. Anyway, teachers tell me it’s kind of fun, so I made a game out of it! This game simplifies the process a lot in the name of getting something that’s solvable by hand and playable on a smartphone. Hope you enjoy.

Hi HN, Last month, I have worked with my team here at Amy.app to make a stand-alone SAT Tutor. I'm pretty excited about this product, as it's our first attempt to make a stand-alone product targeted directly at students. So far all our products were targeted at teachers/schools/publishers. But we never found product-market fit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Our SAT-Math tutor is designed to find your knowledge gaps and gets you up-to-speed as fast as possible. We believe it offers a fresh approach on how online learning usually works. Please let me know what you think. The product has a 3 days…

From 2020-23 I taught at a highly accelerated math program in Pasadena, CA and was given the opportunity to develop and teach a quantitative computer science track for participating 10th-12th graders who had an interest in CS. I developed the curriculum on the fly while teaching the courses, and eventually consolidated it all into this textbook. The students had already learned a surprising amount of math for their age using a system that is now commercially available at www.mathacademy.com, where they progressed from prealgebra through AP Calculus BC in only three years (6th-8th grade), and…

Hi HN, we are Jurgen (CTO) and Raphael (CEO) from amy.app We have been working for several years on a tool (Amy) that emulates a private tutor. Amy is based on Raphael's experience as a tutor and university lecturer in Mathematical Modeling. Today we want to show you Amy in action by teaching you fractions. Why fractions?: Because fractions form the foundation of many more advanced topics and is often the first major barrier to student success in maths. Mastering fractions is an important indicator of long term success. Why tutoring?: Tutoring has been shown to be one of the most efficient…
