Hi HN, I host my own mail infrastructure and don't rely on third-party tools to send my mails. But in a microservice architecture, managing all the SMTP configs quickly becomes tiresome. After a while I'd always have my credentials and settings scattered in application-properties, bash scripts and environment files. So I've build Brieferl, an app where you can add your SMTP servers and send emails through a single API with a simple JSON payload. Dan Ariely and I are looking for ways to help people with high email load. One idea was Shortwhale, which we've tested for a few months now. The idea is super simple: It's a place to tell people how you prefer email and it offers a simple contact form that adds the necessary structure to email. Although technically trivial, it works extremely well for Dan. Hey HN, I've been working on an email client and wanted to get some feedback! Minimail is built on Phonegap, so it uses HTML/CSS/JS for everything user-facing. The app also uses emailbox (a related project of mine) as the backend API for receiving/parsing/sending emails. I think email clients need a huge UX/UI overhaul, and so I'm trying to build a flexible/hackable email client that anyone can customize to fit their email workflow. Thanks for any feedback! Right now, most email services focus on outbound emails (newsletters, transactional, delivery), but that doesn't solve the fact that we all hate receiving them. Due to lack of time to focus on this, I've taken the decision to abandon the project as a startup, but to make it available as an open source solution instead. A minimal script to receive emails via SMTP, parse content (including headers), store attachments in Amazon S3, and forward email content to a webhook. I use it to power DMARC report storage and email content testing. Some of the big email API providers have inbound APIs but costs can rack up fast if you're using them at scale.
