24 alternatives to Open-source AI data generator (now hosted)
Hey HN! A few months ago we shared our AI dataset generator as an open source repo, and the response was incredible (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44388093). We got requests from folks who wanted to use it without the hosting overhead, so we created both options: a hosted version (https://www.metabase.com/ai-data-generator for instant use and the source code fully open (https://github.com/metabase/dataset-generator) for anyone who wants to self-host or contribute. Looking forward to seeing how you use it and what you build on top of…
This AI data generator creates synthetic datasets using language models. It's available both as a hosted service for immediate use and as open-source code for self-hosting or customization. The tool supports multiple… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Hey HN! Author of the site here. I tried a few tricks to keep the text-generation part of the site up, but even leaning hard on Huggingface's API and bumping time-outs up, it looks like the site is struggling a bit. I'm going to see if there's anything I can do to keep the text-generation part available, but in the meantime, the pre-generated set should stay pretty stable. Not sure if there's much else I can do without burning a hole in my cloud bills — sorry for the troubles! I've put up a more detailed description of how this works on the GitHub -…

I've been exploring the (not so=) amazing potential of AI in coding and have compiled a list of tools. From AI-powered IDEs to code generators, this resource is my contribution to the community. I'm still on the fence about including txt2sql projects, as their functionality seems too basic to me. And I'm personally maintaining this, so your feedback is wellcome.

Excited to share a project I’ve been building for months! Would love to receive honest feedback :) My motivation: AI is clearly going to be the interface for data. But earlier attempts (text-to-SQL, etc.) fell short — they treated it like magic. The space has matured: teams now realize that AI + data needs structure, context, and rules. So I built a product to help teams deliver “chat with data” solutions fast with full control and observability (agent tracing, quality scores, etc) — am I wrong? The product allows you to connect any LLM to any data source with centralized context…

Synthetic data generation is an essential step in training and evaluating LLMs/Agents/RAG pipelines, but tooling around this is still lacking. We're introducing Curator, an open-source library designed to streamline the data curation process. While there are many libraries to prompt LLMs, the semantics of generating synthetic data is different from prompting. For example, we need to process a large number of prompts (sometimes in millions or more) while accepting some failures, utilize several stages of prompting, incorporate human feedback, and filter out bad data using verifiers…

Hey HN, We just shipped a new AI-powered feature... BUT the "AI" piece is largely in the background. Instead of relying on a chatbot, we've integrated AI (with strict input & output guardrails) into a workflow to handle two specific tasks that would be difficult for traditional programming: 1. Identifying the most relevant base URL from HAR files, since it would be tedious to cover every edge case or scenario to omit analytics, tracking, and other network noise. 2. Generating synthetic data for API requests by passing the API context and faker-js functions to GPT-4. The steps are broken down…

Hey Hackernews! We’ve launched our new AI-powered report builder and we’re eager to get feedback. We set this up with some demo retail data, but this can plug into any SQL database to provide customer reporting through natural language. I’ve seen this type of feature demo well on other platforms, but never actually work, so we’re putting this out into the world for anyone to actually try themselves. We’re leveraging OpenAI under the hood and have made a ton of improvements to the prompt engineering to configure the reports (OpenAI doesn’t actually write the underlying SQL). Click into a…

Oumi▲24Since yesterday, I've created a dataset out of a few docs I had (hackathon organization instructions) and then started fine tuning qwen 3.5. So it only took a few hours! I'm impressed by the ease of use - it's a chatbot and even if you don't have a lot of experience you can follow steps. Though don't want to undermine it, I'm sure could be a great fit for serious labs too.

We just open sourced a first class our AI web app builder. Instead of using another hosted AI coding platform, you can fork this project and build your own AI app builder, fully customized and running under your own brand. It includes: Next.js + TypeScript AI chat with streaming Artifact generation File explorer Code editor Live preview Databases Sandboxes to be used by AI agents Versions Responsive production-ready UI And a lot more... The only required dependency is the Totalum API, which exposes the AI generation engine through a simple REST API. You can replace or extend the backend…

Hey HN! When implementing an AI-powered feature for a project, we—and many people we've talked to—often reach a point where we have to choose an AI model but aren’t sure which one best fits our constraints or where to even start. Unfortunately, the advice to "just use chatgpt" is not always a good one. What if I want an open-source model? What languages does it support? What about context window size or the number of parameters? There are thousands of AI models already out there and many of them are perfect for certain problems. That’s why we’ve carved out this part of our product as a free…

Hey everyone, A couple of months ago, we created Gurubase.io to build RAG-based Q&A agents focused on open-source tools, with the goal of helping developers learn and troubleshoot more effectively. Since then, it has gained momentum, with hundreds of repositories already using it and showcasing it to their users.. https://github.com/Gurubase/gurubase?tab=readme-ov-file#used... Today, we've released the entire system as an open-source project, allowing you to install it in your own infrastructure and create "Gurus" on any topic you choose. Current capabilities of Gurubase:…

Since ChatGPT became popular, I've been wondering: what would an LLM-powered app that's not chat-centric look like ? Would an encyclopedia that's almost entirely generated on-the-fly be any good? Can we use AI hyper links to replace most of the typing? Since I haven't found anything close to what I had in mind, I decided to give it a try and see for myself. WikiGen.ai is a website that's almost entirely generated by AI, with a few contextual tools to assist users with readability levels, explanations, and fact checking. Hey everyone, DNDGenerate is my little adventure into the world of AI and D&D. I wanted to learn more about using ChatGpt to build software and about the openai apis. When I saw how much fun my 9-year-old was having, creating his own D&D worlds. That got me thinking – why not make a tool that uses ChatGPT to help build cool D&D campaigns? It's been a blast mixing my love for tech and D&D. I showed this at our latest dnd game, and my fellow party members seemed to like the results, so I thought I'd share it here as well.

Hi everyone, We have been developing a platform to enable professionals to build AI assistants to help them through their work. After a few months, we realized people are trying to sell basic functionalities that can be built from scratch in a couple of hours. Due to this, individuals who are not familiar with the current SOTA are misinformed about the potential of generative models. So, we decided to open up some of our most popular templates as standalone tools for free to empower individuals and set a solid standard for what people should expect. We believe the barrier to accessing…

Hi HN, We're a small team building AI tutors out of India, and as you might guess, this means we spend a ton of time writing, testing, and refining prompts for LLMs. When we started out, we were using the OpenAI playground but things became tedious when we wanted to compare responses from different models. We tried a bunch of other playgrounds but found them lacking in some features so we built our own. Quick Links: Github: https://github.com/supernova-app/ai-playground Hosted demo: http://playground.getsupernova.ai Demo video:…

Inspired by a video I saw about someone running GPT-4o in a try/catch handler, I built a server that serves up a completely AI-generated page.
