24 alternatives to Open-source model routing for coding agents at Astra-level performance
This open-source tool enables routing between different AI models for coding agents, delivering performance comparable to Astra-level systems. It's designed for developers building AI-assisted coding applications who… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. We built a model router that plugs into coding agents (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc.) and intelligently sends requests to the best model to serve them. Here's a quick demo of running it locally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isKhAyivtfM. At Weave, we write most of our code with AI, and it's been getting more expensive. This came to a head when Opus 4.7 was released and, thanks to its tokenizer changes, our costs shot up. We knew we didn't need Opus for everything but we didn't want to lose out on the intelligence for the cases where you really need it. So we decided…

Context Gateway▲220We built an open-source proxy that sits between coding agents (Claude Code, OpenClaw, etc.) and the LLM, compressing tool outputs before they enter the context window. Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vFZ6MPrwjw#t=9s. Motivation: Agents are terrible at managing context. A single file read or grep can dump thousands of tokens into the window, most of it noise. This isn't just expensive — it actively degrades quality. Long-context benchmarks consistently show steep accuracy drops as context grows (OpenAI's GPT-5.4 eval goes from 97.2% at 32k to 36.6% at 1M…

Hi HN! We just launched Verdent, an AI coding agent that actually plans before it codes, tests its own work, and delivers production-ready results without you having to clean up after it. tl;dr Check out the website [1] and read the story [2] - The problem: Current AI tools dump code and leave you to debug. You ask for "build a login endpoint" and get a passwordless JWT mess that doesn't fit your project. We've talked to hundreds of engineers who are frustrated with having to micromanage AI output. - What we built: Verdent works more like a senior engineer. It asks clarifying questions…

Steiner is a series of reasoning models trained on synthetic data using reinforcement learning. These models can explore multiple reasoning paths in an autoregressive manner during inference and autonomously verify or backtrack when necessary, enabling a linear traversal of the implicit search tree. Hello! We just released freeact (https://github.com/gradion-ai/freeact), a lightweight agent library that empowers language models to act as autonomous agents through executable code actions. By enabling agents to express their actions directly in code rather than through constrained formats like JSON, freeact provides a flexible and powerful approach to solving complex, open-ended problems that require dynamic solution paths. * Supports dynamic installation and utilization of Python packages at runtime * Agents learn from feedback and store successful code actions as…

OpenMolt▲132Hi HN! I built OpenMolt, an open-source framework for creating programmatic AI agents in Node.js. Instead of wiring complex workflows (that can break), you define agents in code with instructions, tools, integrations, and memory. The agent then plans steps and executes actions like calling APIs, updating data, or interacting with services. When things break or change, the agent can adapt instead of failing like static workflows. The goal is to make agents behave more like real software systems than prompt scripts. It includes: - a planning/execution loop - tool and API integrations -…

We built meta-agent: an open-source library that automatically and continuously improves agent harnesses from production traces. Point it at an existing agent, a stream of unlabeled production traces, and a small labeled holdout set. An LLM judge scores unlabeled production traces as they stream. A proposer reads failed traces and writes one targeted harness update at a time, such as changes to prompts, hooks, tools, or subagents. The update is kept only if it improves holdout accuracy. On tau-bench v3 airline, meta-agent improved holdout accuracy from 67% to 87%. We open-sourced meta-agent.…

Single-agent LLMs suck at long-running complex tasks. We’ve open-sourced a multi-agent orchestrator that we’ve been using to handle long-running LLM tasks. We found that single LLM agents tend to stall, loop, or generate non-compiling code, so we built a harness for agents to coordinate over shared context while work is in progress. How it works: 1. Orchestrator agent that manages task decomposition 2. Sub-agents for parallel work 3. Subscriptions to task state and progress 4. Real-time sharing of intermediate discoveries between agents We tested this on a Putnam-level math problem, but the…
