24 alternatives to PaperSync, making ArXiv papers collaborative

Demo: https://youtu.be/pnznDL9SZvI PaperSync was a project was made by two CS freshmen, Matthew Li (me!) and Michael Li, in 24 hours during HackCMU. At a high level, we built PaperSync to make reading research papers easier and more collaborative. Users can reference any part of the paper, ask anything they want, and have other users reply, all within the paper itself! If you are interested in our work, we would love to talk! Reach out to us at [email protected] or [email protected].

PaperSync is a collaborative tool designed to make reading academic papers from ArXiv easier. It lets users highlight any part of a paper, ask questions, and receive replies from other users directly within the… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

Hello HN, Talk2Arxiv is a small open-source RAG application I've been building for a few weeks. To use it just prepend any arxiv.org link with 'talk2' to load the paper into a responsive RAG chat application (e.g. www.arxiv.org/abs/1706.03762 -> www.talk2arxiv.org/abs/1706.03762). All implementation details are in the GitHub. Currently, because I've opted to extract text from the PDF of the paper rather than reading the LaTeX source code (since I wanted to build a more generic PDF RAG in the process), it struggles with symbolic text / mathematics, and sometimes fails…

Hey guys, I love HN! I wanted to extend the same aesthetic and community towards things beyond tech-related news. I thought it would be cool to get the same quality of community gathered around the latest and greatest research coming out. Let me know what you guys think of what I have so far. It's still early so there are probably bugs and other quality issues. If there's any features missing that you'd want let me know. ALSO, if any of you are familiar with the map of the territory of any particular field, please let me know! Would love to pick your brain and to come up with a 'most…

As a grad student (and an ADHDer), I had trouble doing literature review systematically. To combat this, I made a website that finds similar papers using the meaning of the thing I am looking for. I used MixedBread's [^1] embedding model to generate vectors from the abstracts. I store and search similar vectors using Milvus [^2] and finally use Gradio [^3] to serve the frontend. I update the vector database weekly by pulling the metadata dataset from Kaggle [^4]. To speed up the search process on my free oracle instance, I binarise the embeddings and use Hamming distance as a metric. I would…

I built Booklet to solve the problem of too many chat messages at work. Booklet updates classic internet forums and email groups to have a modern UI and high polish. It organizes communications into threads, and summarizes activities into a neat email newsletter - so members can stay updated without having to stay logged in. The async format promotes deeper discussions, while also increasing engagement by making conversations easy to follow. My goal is to make communications more asynchronous - so that I can get back to work, instead of slacking all day. Most early communities have been…

Hi HN! Open Paper allows you to annotate and understand your research papers with an AI copilot. I wanted a paper-reading assistant that let met actually dig into papers in-place while benefiting from AI tooling. When it comes to studying, I'm not a fan of the typical chat interfaces that obfuscate uploaded files and turn them into black box 'content'. Hence, I've implemented a split-pane view. To mitigate the risk of hallucinations, all AI responses come with grounded citations that refer back to the source material in-flow. Some feature highlights: - Actually read your papers in one place…

I built this yesterday to help understand papers I'm interested in. It's using the gemini 2.5 flash lite model, but you can run it yourself[1] and switch to 2.5 pro for better results. When I read papers, I have to jump between multiple tabs to find the dataset, code, videos, peer reviews, and so on. I tried to fix this with this project. It started as a project just for papers on arXiv, but after its initial success on Twitter (got like 1.9k views: the most I have gotten for a post), I have now expanded it to include other openly available papers from PubMed Central, bioRxiv, medRxiv, and eLife. These papers have been linked with their genes, proteins, diseases, drugs, clinical trials, 3D protein structures, code, and cited and similar papers. This project now has four…

http://paperkast.com Hello everybody, I just wanted to share a link aggregator website: paperkast.com. It's a article sharing and discussion hub. It's opened recently. I think it was a need for the academia. I don't think there is an online community for paper discussion. Twitter is good for publication sharing but there is no central discussion around a paper. It's all over the place. Seperately, we know that the link aggregation style has a good reputation. It's a good stimulation for discussion. What do you think of it?

Built an automated system to run a deep search of ArXiv and carefully find all the precise papers that exist on a complex topic. It's different from simple RAG because it searches, classifies, and adapts based on relevant papers it uncovers, and then continues until it finds every paper on a topic (trying to mimic the human research process). Benchmarked 10x higher accuracy and total retrieval compared to Google Scholar for a median search (whitepaper on website). Also knows when it is complete, and misses virtually nothing (< 3% or so, once it's converged). Website has a free trial and a…

Hi, I’m Mikkel and I’m building Async, an open-sourced developer tool that combines AI coding with task management and code review. What Async does: - Automatically researches coding tasks, asks clarifying questions, then executes code changes in the cloud - Breaks work into reviewable subtasks with stack diffs for easier code review - Handles the full workflow from issue to merged PR without leaving the app Demo here: https://youtu.be/98k42b8GF4s?si=Azf3FIWAbpsXxk3_ I’ve been working as a developer for over a decade now. Almost one year ago I asked HN if anybody is interested to make a Web app to make reading and finding scientific papers smarter [http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1664648]. No one did, at least no one did what "I" think is the best way to approach this problem. A a few month ago I decided to do it myself.<p>Meet JournalClub iPad app (absolutely free), http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/journalclub/id443819334? I have a recommendation engine in the pipeline that I would introduce in the next update (hopefully in a month or so). I really appreciate any comments, feedbacks.
