Checking on some old material to provide some cross-referencing[1] I got this message: We've temporarily limited requests for old items. I've always taken it for granted that HN contained useful information that I'd be able to retrieve whenever I found the need, but this has brought me up short. Perhaps older discussions will eventually become unavailable. Will Google cache still have them? Will the Wayback machine still have them? How convenient will they be to find in the future. If my experience is any indicator, the DNS issue seems to be getting worse as the hours go by, not better. However, I have found that adding OpenDNS servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.222.222) to my list of DNS servers has completely eliminated the issue, at least for the time being. So, under my IPv4 configuration, in the "DNS Servers" field, I have "208.67.222.222, 208.67.222.222, 8.8.8.8" - the last one is the Google DNS server. I'm able to resolve Twitter, Github, etc.

I found out Cloudflare has a DNS over HTTPS api via 1.1.1.1 resolver, figured I'd make a small tool out of it, as somene who keeps checking domain names for side projects which I never build, this kinda helps me look for something. It's not fully accurate, because it returns unavailable even for parked pages, which technically are available, but works for me. It just checks for A records via this endpoint https://cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query?name=${domain}&type=A Just make sure to pass this header - "application/dns-json"
