24 alternatives to Patchwork – Open-source framework to automate development gruntwork

Hi HN! We’re Asankhaya and Rohan and we are building Patchwork. Patchwork tackles development gruntwork—like reviews, docs, linting, and security fixes—through customizable, code-first 'patchflows' using LLMs and modular code management steps, all in Python. Here's a quick overview video: https://youtu.be/MLyn6B3bFMU From our time building DevSecOps tools, we experienced first-hand the frustrations our users faced as they built complex delivery pipelines. Almost a third of developer time is spent on code management tasks[1], yet backlogs remain. Patchwork lets you combine…

Hi HN, We are excited to share patchwork - an open-source CLI for dev chore automation that you can use with your LLM of choice. Dev Teams can orchestrate custom workflows (called ‘patchflows’) using a combination of reusable steps and prompt templates to fix vulnerabilities, upgrade breaking dependencies, generate documentation, and more. We built scanning tools in the past, and saw how overwhelmed developers get with their DevSecOps pipelines. LLMs have the potential to help - but there is a need for an 'outer-loop' solution that can be customized to accommodate the processes, priorities,…

It consists of an extended language server and (to start) a VS Code extension. Our GitHub is https://github.com/continuedev/continue. You can watch a demo of Continue and download the extension at https://continue.dev — — — A growing number of developers are replacing Google + Stack Overflow with Large Language Models (LLMs) as their primary approach to get help, similar to how…

Hey, HN community, We're so excited to share Automatisch with HN finally. Automatisch is an open-source workflow automation tool, an alternative to Zapier. Together with my co-founder (@barinali), we have been working on it for about 15 months and have started getting early adopters. Automatisch is a workflow automation tool that lets you connect different web services like Slack, Github, Twitter, and more to automate your business processes. For example, you can build automation that gets all new tweets, including the "open source" phrase, and post them to the Slack channel you specified.…

hi hn, i built openwork, an open-source, local-first system inspired by claude cowork. it’s a native desktop app that runs on top of opencode (opencode.ai). it’s basically an alternative gui for opencode, which (at least until now) has been more focused on technical folks. the original seed for openwork was simple: i have a home server, and i wanted my wife and i to be able to run privileged workflows. things like controlling home assistant, or deploying custom web apps (e.g. our customs recipe app recipes.benjaminshafii.com), legal torrents, without living in a terminal. our initial setup…

Hey HN – Gregor & Magnus here again. A few months ago, we launched Browser Use (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43173378), which let LLMs perform tasks in the browser using natural language prompts. It was great for one-off tasks like booking flights or finding products—but we soon realized enterprises have somewhat different needs: They typically have one workflow with dynamic variables (e.g., filling out a form and downloading a PDF) that they want to reliably run a million times without breaking. Pure LLM agents were slow, expensive, and unpredictable for these…

I’ve been testing a simple idea inspired by Apple/Cloudflare/Anthropic: LLMs are far better at writing a small program than coordinating multiple tool calls. So instead of giving the model 10+ tools, I exposed one: a TypeScript sandbox with access to the same interfaces. The model writes a script → it runs once → done. What changed - +68% reduction in token use - No multi-step drift or retries - Local models (Llama 3.1 8B / Phi-3) became much more reliable Repo: https://github.com/universal-tool-calling-protocol/code-mode Curious whether others have seen…

TLDR; Graphite enables a git workflow called “stacking” - the fastest way to develop and ship code, which many large tech companies have been using for years. Graphite makes stacking available to anyone with a GitHub account. Hi HN! I’m Tomas, co-founder of graphite.dev, and today we’re launching Graphite after almost two years of development in closed beta. [1] Graphite started as an internal solution to our own problem. When we (engineers from Meta, Google and Airbnb) left our previous roles, we lost access to the internal code review tools we loved. So we built our own.…

I've invented a new alternative to forking / vendoring / monkey-patching packages in Python. It's a bit like OverlayFS for Python modules - it allows you write modifications for a target module (lower) in a new module (upper), and have these combined in a new virtual module (mount). It works by rewriting imports using AST transformations, then running both the lower and upper module's code in the new Python module. This prevents polluting the global namespace when monkey-patching, and means if you want to make changes to a third-party package, you don't have to take on the…
