24 alternatives to pg-bulk-ingest – Now with multi-table support

I (with others) made a Python utility for loading data into PostgreSQL incrementally from ETL-ish pipelines. Its API supported ingesting into multiple multiple tables at the sort of "structural" level from its beginning (more or less), but didn't actually support it if you tried to do it. And I've been umming and ahhing on how best to do it. No way seemed perfect... ... but pushed by an actual use case, I finally made a decision and did it.

pg-bulk-ingest is a Python utility for incrementally loading data into PostgreSQL from ETL pipelines. It enables developers to ingest data into multiple tables simultaneously, a capability that was previously supported… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. pg-bulk-ingest – Now with multi-table support launched in 2024; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

PgQueuer is a Python job queue that uses PostgreSQL for everything — queue storage, locking, notifications. No Redis, no RabbitMQ, no separate broker to operate. If your app already has Postgres, you already have the broker. After ~2 years and 26 minor releases, 1.0 ships today as the first stable release. Strict semver from here on. Thanks to everyone who contributed and left feedback!

Hey HN! Lev and Justin here, authors of PgDog (https://pgdog.dev/), a connection pooler, load balancer and database sharder for PostgreSQL. If you build apps with a lot of traffic, you know the first thing to break is the database. We are solving this with a network proxy that works without requiring application code changes or database migrations. Our post from last year: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44099187 The most important update: we are in production. Sharding is used a lot, with direct-to-shard queries (one shard per query) working pretty much…

SnapQL is an open-source desktop app (built with Electron) that lets you query your Postgres database using natural language. It’s schema-aware, so you don’t need to copy-paste your schema or write complex SQL by hand. Everything runs locally — your OpenAI API key, your data, and your queries — so it's secure and private. Just connect your DB, describe what you want, and SnapQL writes and runs the SQL for you.

Hi there, Burak here. I built an open-source data copy tool called ingestr (https://github.com/bruin-data/ingestr) I did build quite a few data warehouses both for the companies I worked at, as well as for consultancy projects. One of the more common pain points I observed was that everyone had to rebuild the same data ingestion bit over and over again, and each in different ways: - some wrote code for the ingestion from scratch to various degrees - some used off-the-shelf data ingestion tools like Fivetran / Airbyte I have always disliked both of these approaches,…

pglite-fusion is a PostgreSQL extension that allows you to embed SQLite databases into your PostgreSQL tables by enabling the creation of columns with the `SQLITE` type. This means every row in the table can have an embedded SQLite database. In addition to the PostgreSQL `SQLITE` type, pglite-fusion provides the `query_sqlite`` function for querying SQLite databases and the `execute_sqlite` function for updating them. Additional functions are listed in the project’s README. The pglite-fusion extension is written in Rust using the pgrx framework [1]. ---- Implementation Details The PostgreSQL…

Hey HN, I built pg-mcp, a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for PostgreSQL that provides structured schema inspection and query execution for LLMs and agents. It's multi-tenant and runs over HTTP/SSE (not stdio) Features - Supports multiple database connections from multiple agents - Schema Introspection: Returns table structures, types, indexes and constraints; enriched with descriptions from pg_catalog. (for well documented databases) - Read-Only Queries: Controlled execution of queries via MCP. - EXPLAIN Tool: Helps smart agents optimize queries before execution. - Extension…

This extension let's you write PRQL functions in PostgreSQL. When I first saw PRQL on Hacker News a few months ago, I was immediately captivated by the idea, yet equally disappointed that there was no integration for PostgreSQL. Having previous experience with writing PostgreSQL extensions in C, I thought this was a great opportunity to try out the pgrx framework and decided to integrate PRQL with PostgreSQL myself. The maintainers of both PRQL and pgrx were very nice to work with. Thanks guys.

Hello HN! Keeping Elasticsearch or Algolia in sync with Postgres is a pain when your data spans multiple tables. Traditional CDC tools like Debezium capture table-level events but don’t help when you need to index a full entity composed of related records. That's why I built PG-Capture. PG-Capture lets you define a schema as complex as you need, aggregate table-level events, and reconstruct structured objects spanning multiple tables. It then publishes them as meaningful domain-level events to any queue (RabbitMQ, SQS, etc.). PG-Capture does NOT replace Debezium, it works on top of it (or…

Hi HN! We're Evgeny and Arjun, and we’re building a better way to do analytics with Postgres. We love Postgres for its simplicity, power, and rich ecosystem. But engineers have to still get bogged down with heavyweight and expensive OLAP systems when connecting an analytics data stack. Postgres is amazing at OLTP queries, but not for OLAP queries (large data scans and aggregations). Even in this case, we’ve still heard from countless scaling startups that they still try to use only a read replica to run analytics workloads since they don’t want to deal with the data engineering complexity of…

Hey all, I'm the creator of @pg-nano/pg-parser. I'm using it in pg-nano[1] to statically analyze Postgres schemas spread across multiple SQL files for a couple of reasons: 1. Each CREATE statement needs to be in topological order, so pg-nano's dev command can execute them without issue. 2. pg-nano has a plugin system like Vite that allows SQL generation based on the parsed schema. Probably to the surprise of no one, working with an untyped AST feels like you're back in the days of JavaScript, because well... you are. Most of you know by now just how great TypeScript and static types in…
