Hey HN, I'm Ron Efroni, CEO at Flox, and today we are releasing version 1.0 of our open source CLI, helping folks manage development environments everywhere. My own experience with development environments began with air-gapped systems, having to actually burn software to a CD to iterate over a very slow and expensive development cycle, sometimes reaching the server rack and realizing I have the wrong disk.... Fast forward to today and there are countless alternatives available backed by incredible compute resources, yet we somehow still find ourselves paying the price of long development…

Devbox is a command-line tool that lets you easily create isolated shells and containers. You start by defining the list of packages required by your development environment, and devbox uses that definition to create an isolated environment just for your application. In practice, Devbox works similar to a package manager like yarn – except the packages it manages are at the operating-system level (the sort of thing you would normally install with brew or apt-get). Hi HN! I've created a CLI tool called "ell" that allows you to interact with LLMs directly from your terminal. Designed with the Unix philosophy in mind, ell is simple, modular, and extensible. You can easily pipe input and output to integrate with other tools. Its templates and hook-based plugins enable you to customize and extend its functionality to suit any needs. Check out the README for usage instructions and examples. I developed this tool because existing solutions often felt too heavy, with many dependencies, or they weren't friendly to piping and customization. I, on the contrary,…

A developer's machine accumulates tools fast. A Rust CLI you compiled last year, a Python formatter installed via `uv`, a language server pulled from npm, a terminal emulator from a curl script, a Go binary built from source. Each came from a different package manager, each with its own install incantation you half-remember. I wanted a way to declare what I need without adopting a complex system like Nix or Ansible just for a single laptop. The result was a plain old Makefile. I wrote a short post on using Make (along with a tiny bash script and fzf) to create a searchable, single-command…

I've been writing Elixir for 5 years and made plenty of sites with Phoenix and LiveView but my biggest gripe has always been with the lack of quality UI components available. The JS ecosystem has so many, and it's the one thing I miss from being primarily a React & Node developer. So this is my attempt at bringing some pretty and useful components most applications need to Phoenix projects to try and fill in the gaps between what makes LiveView such a productive joy to work with. The library is very very raw and requires some initial clean up so PRs are very welcome to tidy up the DX as well…

Hey HN, I find myself reaching for tools like it-tools.tech or other random sites every now and then during development or debugging. So, I built a toolkit with a sane and simple CLI interface for most of those tools. For the curious and lazy, at the moment, ut has tools for, - Encoding: base64 (encode, decode), url (encode, decode) - Hashing: md5, sha1, sha224, sha256, sha384, sha512 - Data Generation: uuid (v1, v3, v4, v5), token, lorem, random - Text Processing: case (lower, upper, camel, title, constant, header, sentence, snake), pretty-print, diff - Development Tools: calc, json…

Hey HN! We are Zack, Warfa, and Sam. After some human-years of building Pax, we're excited finally to enter Beta and to invite anyone to build with Pax for the first time. What is Pax? Pax is a tool for building native apps & websites, similar to SwiftUI or Flutter. Pax is driven by a declarative user interface description language that attaches to Rust application logic. Pax itself is built in Rust. Pax ships with an integrated vector design tool. This design tool is a bidirectional view into any Pax codebase: open codebase with designer, make visual changes, edit pax-lang or Rust by hand…
