Several months ago, I built a "stealth" feature that I could use. It hasn't been advertised, and I've been the only user. As I find it useful for myself, I believe others (software developers) may like it too. So, this is the first public post about it, and if it gets any positive feedback, I may put some time into promoting it more. In essence, given that you've opened a GitHub repo (there are ~225k of the more popular ones indexed as of now), you can replace "github" with "libhunt" within the URL, and you will find the top alternatives and related projects. For example, here are three…

00's called, they want their RSS feeds back. I was looking at my growing Github gist collection when a sudden urge to blog and make a name for myself "by not programming" struck. Part way into implementing my oh so special static website generator it occurred to me that, quite frankly, Github gists is a pretty decent publishing platform. I mean, it gives you reasonably extended markdown with previews, heck I could even write in org-mode, has comments, follower - followee relationship, extended search with filters, check out locally and push your edits. Did someone say "edit button"? Thus the…

Since everyone seems to be making a github application, I thought I'd share mine. It's an aggregated view of all of a given person's github projects, as well as easyish lookups for linkedin/stackoverflow/hackernews. It attempts to determine both productivity (how much code did this person write?) as well as impact (did anyone care?) I'd love any feedback, but go easy on the number of simultaneous searches as I'm trying to play nice by github's api limits. check it -- http://www.gitalytics.com

Hey all, I've been working on a blogging platform Truegit (https://truegit.io) powered by your Github repository. The mission is to give the publishers complete ownership of the the content (as the Github repository is the source of truth of everything including your blog configuration), while we publish your content and help you gain audience. You can write your posts in markdown, commit it to your repository, and we publish it! Not to mention, this also opens up a whole new world of collaboration on your posts through Pull Requests. We want to make it like Medium powered by…

I got tired of collecting open source projects in my chrome bookmarks so I decided to compile a curated list of: - Recently active projects on GitHub - Mostly dev tools (but also productivity, analytics) - Projects which are "Alternative to X software" My bookmarks are finally empty:D If you have a great open source tool you use, I'd be glad to hear your suggestions. Also, any feedback is greatly appreciated.
