Products that do what Podcastsaver.com – a search engine testbench dressed as a podcast site does
Hey HN, I submitted PodcastSaver (https://podcastsaver.com) before but the reason it's interesting now is that I've started converting it into a live search engine test-bench. I've discussed it a bit here[0], and this idea has been kicking around in my head for a while so I got a chance to do some related writing about it with Supabase[1]. The basic idea is to use a modest piece of the podcast index[2] as a place to test out different new age search engines against each other. So far there are two engines running: - Postgres FTS + pg_trgm (tuned -- indices are there, I did some…

Hi HN, wanted to share a project that I’ve been working on recently. PodText allows users to find anything said on a podcast. You can also listen and share clips to a specific part of the podcast audio, simply by highlighting the text of that part. Currently there are just over 25k podcast episodes and I’m adding a lot more in the coming weeks (yes my GPU bill is painful). In order to monetize it, I’m building a sponsorship database to help sponsors find podcasts and vice versa. This will be sold in the form of a $99/month “PodText Business” subscription. I bet I could charge a lot more…

Hi HN! This started late last year as an afternoon project to play around with ElasticSearch, and then I kept thinking of new features I wanted to add. I still have a lot of things I want to build, but now seemed like a good time to put it out there: even if the results aren’t nearly the quality I’d like, I’ve still found it useful and I want to show it off! I’ve been working on it since September 2021, but only in fits and starts. The entire thing runs on a computer in my living room (there’s a picture on the About page); I haven’t done any load testing so we’ll see how it holds up.

Hi all, a few weeks ago I found myself in a situation without anything interesting to listen to. Been through all podcast recommendations from friends and the usual recos from itunes, etc were not cutting it for me. So I build myself a podcast search engine. Based on the data from podcastindex.org and some other available infos. It doesnt (yet) have all available podcasts, only the ones I could find some rating/engagement infos on. But its still around 60k podcasts to discover :) One can search / filter / sort by category, rating, popularity, episodes, language, update date,…
