24 alternatives to Promptix
Hey HN, I built this for my own workflow: too much time lost copying text from Notes/Slack/etc. to ChatGPT/Claude and back. Wanted a simple way to query LLMs without leaving the app. Promptix is a small Mac app that triggers on a hotkey for any selected text: - Translate - Fix grammar - Rewrite/improve - Summarize - Text as prompt - Custom prompts (e.g., "Convert bug report to PR description") Key features: - Works in any app: browsers, IDEs, terminals, etc. - Bring your own key: OpenAI, Anthropic, or any OpenAI-compatible (including local like Ollama). No limits or costs…

AI Hotkeys▲78I caught myself copy-pasting into ChatGPT like 50 times a day. Too lazy for that, so I built a shortcut. Select text anywhere on Mac, press a hotkey — text gets rewritten / translated / summarized / whatever, right where you are. No tabs, no copy-paste dance. Native Swift app, hooks into macOS accessibility APIs. Bring your own API key and calls go straight to OpenAI / Anthropic. Or just use the free tier — 20 requests/day, no signup. https://aihotkeys.tech Curious for the feedback

Hi Hackers, Excited to share a macOS app I've been working on: https://recurse.chat/ for chatting with local AI. While it's amazing that you can run AI models locally quite easily these days (through llama.cpp / llamafile / ollama / llm CLI etc.), I missed feature complete chat interfaces. Tools like LMStudio are super powerful, but there's a learning curve to it. I'd like to hit a middleground of simplicity and customizability for advanced users. Here's what separates RecurseChat out from similar apps: - UX designed for you to use local AI as a daily driver.…

Pinch▲535Hey HN! I’m Christian, daily lurker and some might remember our original launch post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42935355). Today we're launching Pinch for Mac, which we believe is a step-change improvement in real-time AI translation. Our vision is to make cross-lingual conversations feel as natural as regular conversations. TL:DR During an online meeting, the app instantly transcribes and translates all audio you hear, and allows you to decide when you translate your voice and when you don't. It's invisible to others (like Granola), and works everywhere without any…

Edyt▲88Select any text on your Mac, hit Ctrl+Shift+C, and Edyt rewrites it right where it sits, with no panel or copy-pasting into a chat window. You can adjust tone, grammar, or request a full rewrite, and the result appears in the exact field you were typing in, whether thats Mail, Sl

This lets you talk to local LLMs in Apple Notes. I saw Obsidian Ollama (https://github.com/hinterdupfinger/obsidian-ollama) and thought it was handy, but I'm too lazy to migrate away from the Apple ecosystem, so I quickly hacked this together. I tend to use Notes as a scratchpad for prompts, so it's nice to do some quick inference without leaving the app. Notes doesn't really support plugins so I'm using the macOS accessibility API for reading selections and then stream responses using the clipboard (not ideal but it works).

PrompTessor▲125After countless hours of solo coding, designing, and iterating, I’m both excited and nervous to share my first-ever product: PrompTessor — now live. As someone who constantly experiments with AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, I often found myself stuck in a loop of trial-and-error. The issue wasn’t always the AI — it was often the prompt itself. That observation became the starting point for PrompTessor. This tool doesn’t just optimize your prompt — it analyzes it. It gives you: - A prompt score - A breakdown of strengths and weaknesses - A fully optimized version of your prompt - And…

folio▲74hi HN! a couple of months ago I had to analyze a few thousand audio recordings to help identify issues with customer support. i was able to get some raw high-level initial results with python scripts invoking LLM APIs, but they were too general and unhelpful. writing basic prompts is easy, but tuning them and making them specific enough to ensure no faint signal is missed is hard. you need to iterate through the data with an initial prompt, segment the data into different buckets, chain another prompt for each bucket etc. Then you need to constantly review the raw data to tweak the prompts…

Scroll▲93I kept losing ideas in long chats, so I built a tiny Chrome extension to make navigating between turns/prompts way easier. Idk why this isn't a native feature on all LLMs. Anyway, free and open source on GitHub or the Chrome Store. Hope it's helpful! TransLite▲98Hello ! David from Spain here :) I built TransLite because I was tired of breaking my flow every time I needed to translate something before sending it. The usual workflow was: copy → open a browser tab → paste → translate → copy again → paste back. I've created a small macOS menubar app that lets you translate the current clipboard instantly using a keyboard shortcut, in any app. It works locally and supports using your own OpenAI / Claude API key. It’s intentionally simple — no accounts, no tracking, no subscriptions. Happy to answer any questions. Best regards, David

Hey HN, I built a tool to solve my biggest LLM workflow frustration: context switching. The idea came from trying to meta-prompt in Cursor, I found myself constantly jumping to a browser or dedicated AI app just to improve a prompt. This copy/paste/tweak cycle was a huge productivity killer. I wanted AI to integrate seamlessly into my workflow, not disrupt it. That's why I built Promptive. It's a native macOS app that lets you select any text, in any application, and run a custom LLM prompt on it with a global keyboard shortcut or right-click and select the action in the…

We are excited to show Promptly (https://trypromptly.com), a prompt management platform for LLM apps that makes it easy to experiment, share and manage prompts in production. With Promptly, users can: - Try out different prompts and model parameters for various providers - Quickly share prompt snippets together with parameters and generated output. Think of it as CodePen or JSFiddle for prompts - Create high level endpoints on top of provider APIs (Open AI, DreamStudio etc) with templated and versioned prompts - Use built-in caching for endpoints that will help save on Open AI…

I’ve been playing around with local LLMs for the past couple of months and decided to build something that can run on an iPhone. It’s a universal app built with SwiftUI and the excellent ggml library. The model is an SFT fine tuned and 4 bit quantised version of the RedPajama-INCITE-Chat-3B-v1 OSS LLM. It works reasonably well on recent-ish (~3 year old) iPhones, iPads and Macs. It was launched on the App Store yesterday[1] and Product Hunt today[2]. It seems to be reasonably ok at natural language interactions, but given its size, does pretty badly at coding and reasoning. Also, it…

Textpilot▲16I built this tool simply because I need it for myself. I'm not a native English speaker, and every time I write something, I like to double-check if the grammar is good Key features: - Fix grammar and clarity with one click - Rephrase, shorten, or expand text instantly - Generate content from scratch - Translate to multiple languages - Works on any website (no copy-pasting needed) It's built with Next.js and Plasmo. I wanted something lightweight that stays out of the way until you need it. I'd love to hear your feedback!

Promptor▲16Promptor is a tiny macOS app that lets you drag-in a folder and drag-out a perfectly-formatted prompt ready for ChatGPT (or any LLM). It's free, open-source and easy to use. No server-side processing, no API keys, no rate limits – just a local SwiftUI app that gives you the full context of your project in one click.

As a non-native English speaker who sends lots of Slack messages, Emails, and Jira tickets every day, I often found myself switching between apps and copy-pasting the same prompts/replies to and from ChatGPT again and again just to improve my writing and fix mistakes. I wasn’t happy with the repetition and context switching, especially the lag it caused when I needed to reply to a message quickly. But the apps on the market that could help either didn’t have the functionality I wanted (offline/programmable actions/contexts/shortcuts) or were too expensive ( Grammarly).…

Hello HN! I wanted to share a side project of mine: a fully standalone app that uses a local LLM (specifically Mistral 7B) for document interaction using RAG. It supports a wide variety of document types and is designed to run right after installation. There are still quite a few bugs to iron out and many features I'm excited to add. Considering this is my first time working on such a project, I'm really happy with the progress and am learning a ton! The project is open source, so I please feel free to check out my work and leave any feedback :)

As a high school student, I love LLMs and the execution of Apple's Appel Intelligence Writing Tools, but was disappointed that nothing like that existed for Windows. So, I created Writing Tools, a better than Apple Intelligence open-source alternative that works system-wide on Windows! Key features: - Uses Google's Gemini 1.5 Flash model for superior AI-assisted writing (much better than the tiny 2B parameter Apple Intelligence model) - Works in any application with a customizable hotkey - Proofreads, rewrites, summarizes, and more - Free and privacy-focused (your API key stays local, no…

Hey everyone! I made a Mac app for exploring large language models. It’s fast, small, has a tiny memory footprint. It’s immutable by design with both immediate time travel and automatic versioning as foundational elements. The app is written in Swift and a bit of Rust for the tokenizer. I used SwiftUI for structure and animations and Cocoa for advanced behavior. All storage is SQLite and local-only. You can go through the database as needed and backup it as well. The app has support for variants, which is the `n` parameter in the OpenAI chat completion API—equivalent to the drafts feature in…

Hi all, I threw together a small prototype I am calling “Notepad.ai”. A new take on UIs for interacting with LLMs. While I enjoy using LLM’s in the chat format I wanted to see what it would be like to do it in a more long form style. It let’s you write in a pretty free form, much like Window’s Notepad, but you can choose to hit ctrl+[ to analyze the text with a preset prompt of your choosing. It has a few other small features. It’s WIP and very experimental. I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts. Video: https://youtu.be/ntdlgFmSxQY Live Demo:…

This is like ChatGPT but simpler, with less features (for now). It offers unlimited access to o3, Claude Sonnet 4 and other models for the pro plan. It offers access to o4-mini and the like for the free version. Requests are unlimited up to rate limits that we hope apply to less than 2% of users (they're transparent and can be seen on the account page). I was sick of having these like t3.chat or abacus.ai that give you very few messages for the $8-$10 / month subscription, so wanted to create something closer to Cursor's new pricing but transparent. Image generation will come soon, I…
