I built CSV GB+ by Data.olllo, a local data tool that lets you open, clean, and export gigabyte-sized CSVs (even billions of rows) without writing code. Most spreadsheet apps choke on big files. Coding in pandas or Polars works—but not everyone wants to write scripts just to filter or merge CSVs. CSV GB+ gives you a fast, point-and-click interface built on dual backends (memory-optimized or disk-backed) so you can process huge datasets offline. Key Features: Handles massive CSVs with ease — merge, split, dedup, filter, batch export Smart engine switch: disk-based "V Core" or RAM-based "P…

We (me and @aarondia) built a tool to help you turn psuedo-software Excel files into real-software Python. Ideally, Pyoneer helps you automate your manual Excel processes. You can try it today here: https://pyoneer.ai. How it works: 1. You upload an Excel file 2. We statically parse the Excel file and build a dependency graph of all the cells, tables, formulas, and pivots. 3. We do a graph traversal, and translate nodes as we hit them. We use OpenAI APIs to translate formulas. There’s a bunch of extra work here — because even with the best prompt engineering a fella like me can do,…

Gleb, Alex, Erez and Simon here – we are building an open-source tool for comparing data within and across databases at any scale. The repo is at https://github.com/datafold/data-diff, and our home page is https://datafold.com/. As a company, Datafold builds tools for data engineers to automate the most tedious and error-prone tasks falling through the cracks of the modern data stack, such as data testing and lineage. We launched two years ago with a tool for regression-testing changes to ETL code…

I built an experiment that uses an overfitted transformer and arithmetic coding to compress individual files. Instead of training the model to generalize, I train a 900KB transformer to memorize a single file and predict the next byte. Those predictions are fed into an arithmetic coder to produce the compressed output. On a 100MB NYC taxi CSV, it compresses to about 7MB (~0.5 bits/byte). On a 100MB slice of enwik9, it compresses to about 21MB (~1.68 bits/byte). It's pretty slow right now (roughly 20–30 minutes of training and 45 minutes each for compression and decompression on my…

OpenSheet▲86Hi folks. I've been doing some experiments on how LLMs could get more handy in the day to day of working with files (CSV, Parquet, etc). Earlier last year, I built https://datakit.page and evolved it over and over into an all in-browser experience with help of duckdb-wasm. Got loads of feedbacks and I think it turned into a good shape with being an adhoc local data studio, but I kept hearing two main things/issues: Why can't the AI also change cells in the file we give to it? Why can't we modify this grid ourselves? So besides the whole READ and text-to-SQL flows, what seemed…
