Hey HN! Mike & Warren here from HyperDX (now part of ClickHouse)! We’ve been building ClickStack, an open source observability stack that helps you collect, centralize, search/viz/alert on your telemetry (logs, metrics, traces) in just a few minutes - all powered by ClickHouse (Apache2) for storage, HyperDX (MIT) for visualization and OpenTelemetry (Apache2) for ingestion. You can check out the quick start for spinning things up in the repo here: https://github.com/hyperdxio/hyperdx ClickStack makes it really easy to instrument your application so you can go…

I have been working on SQL Explorer, an open source, Django-based reporting and query tool for (gulp!) almost ten years. It's a tool that fits just right for me and many others, and I love and use almost every day. Write SQL, share results, do some analysis, get insight. No surprises. A live demo instance is here (no login or anything required): https://demo.sqlexplorer.io/ And here's a fairly unprofessional, but very enthusiastic, video tour: https://sql-explorer.s3.amazonaws.com/Sql+Explorer+5.mp4 The UI is constrained enough that there's very little to learn,…

I created a web page to compare different analytical databases (both self-managed and services, open-source and proprietary) on a realistic dataset. It contains 20+ databases, each with installation and data loading scripts. And they can be compared to each other on a set of 43 queries, by data load time or by storage size. There are switches to select different types of databases for comparison - for example, only MySQL compatible or PostgreSQL compatible. If you play with the switches, many interesting details will be uncovered. Full description:…

Hi HN, My name is JR and I had a need for a simple analytics solution that allowed me to store (timestamp, json) logs and run SQL over them. It was hard to find the right solution. Solutions like Mixpanel and Amplitude optimized for particular report types. Whereas solutions like Snowflake, BigQuery, etc. required a lot of setup. I built GraphJSON to fit in the middle. I strived for the ease of use of tools like Mixpanel and Amplitude, but wanted to ensure affordances were built to support use cases that big data warehouses enable. Under the hood, GraphJSON is powered by ClickHouse. This…
