Mmap radix sort file by a fixed length prefix of each line - afiodorov/radixmmap

Radix sort big files in memory is a GitHub-hosted utility for sorting large files using the radix sort algorithm. It's designed for users who need to process substantial datasets efficiently. The tool stands out by… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. This project presents a new data structure for storing ordered integer maps. The proposed data structure is a compressive, cache-friendly, radix tree that has performance comparable to an unordered map (`std::unordered_map`) and is an order of magnitude faster than an ordered map (`std::map`).

"dut" is a disk usage calculator that I wrote a couple months ago in C. It is multi-threaded, making it one of the fastest such programs. It beats normal "du" in all cases, and beats all other similar programs when Linux's caches are warm (so, not on the first run). I wrote "dut" as a challenge to beat similar programs that I used a lot, namely pdu[1] and dust[2]. "dut" displays a tree of the biggest things under your current directory, and it also shows the size of hard-links under each directory as well. The hard-link tallying was inspired by ncdu[3], but I don't like how unintuitive the…

Facad is about functionality, not just aesthetics. Key features: - Intuitive file type representation - Smart sorting (directories first, then by extension) - Four-column layout for quick directory analysis It evolved from this alias: alias ls='ls -A -F --group-directories-first --sort=extension --color=always' Facad takes this concept further, offering more flexibility and visual clarity.

Hi all, I've talked about glidesort a few times on HN already, but it's finally ready for release. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. An academic paper on glidesort that goes into a lot more detail than the readme is upcoming, but is not ready yet. I will be giving a talk on glidesort tomorrow at FOSDEM 2023 in the Rust Devroom at 16:10, you can seek me out there as well. In other news, I am leaving academia soon, so if you have interesting (Rust) jobs the coming months feel free to approach me.

I’ve been in the MLOps space for ~10 years, and data is still the hardest unsolved open problem. Code is versioned using Git, data is stored somewhere else, and context often lives in a 3rd location like Slack or GDocs. This is why we built XetHub, a platform that enables teams to treat data like code, using Git. Unlike Git LFS, we don’t just store the files. We use content-defined chunking and Merkle Trees to dedupe against everything in history. This allows small changes in large files to be stored compactly. Read more here:…

This is a vector index I built that supports insertion and k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) querying, optimized for GPUs. It operates entirely in CUDA and can process queries on half a billion vectors in under 200 milliseconds. The codebase is structured as a standalone library with an HTTP API for remote access. It’s intended for high-performance search tasks—think similarity search, AI model retrieval, or reinforcement learning replay buffers. The codebase is located at https://github.com/rodlaf/BinaryGPUIndex.

I want to share a really dumb, but very practical project I have packaged this summer, to perform operations on strings much faster. I was using Python to work with a multi-terabyte newline-delimited file. Reading, splitting, and shuffling it was a nightmare. So, I wrapped a trivial hardware-friendly heuristic I've been using for the last few years into a CPython library. The part I enjoyed the most is implementing SIMD behavior without SIMD instructions... Using 64-bit words to work at 8-bit granularity. Unlike conventional SIMD, the code would remain the same for ~~almost~~ any hardware.…

I have posted a much earlier version of this over a year ago [0]. Since then a lot has changed. Obviously, the name has changed. This happened for the paper publication [1]. I have also optimized the speed, integrated ISA-L for special cases, limited the compression-ratio-dependent maximum memory consumption, and finally added parallelized CRC32 computation, which adds ~5% overhead no matter the number of cores used. At this point, I am leaning towards calling it production-ready although there are still many ideas for improvements. Redoing the benchmarks of the older Show HN, would look…
