I wrote a minimal iOS app called PocketServer (~1MB in download size) that creates persistent local HTTP/WebDAV servers which can actually run in the background. Functionalities: - Serve a folder via WebDAV — browse/add/delete files from others devices on the same network. - Host a static website or directory listing, accessible locally. - Share files cross-platform on the same network, no app needed on the receiving side. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pocketserver-local-server/id67...

I've built an airgapped Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system for question-answering on documents, running entirely offline with local inference. Using Llama 3, Mistral, and Gemini, this setup allows secure, private NLP on your own machine. Perfect for researchers, data scientists, and developers who need to process sensitive data without cloud dependencies. Built with Llama C++, LangChain, and Streamlit, it supports quantized models and provides a sleek UI for document processing. Check it out, contribute, or suggest new features!

I've been building a cli for my homelab/self-hosted setup. The original motivation was getting tired of stitching together deployments, monitoring, remote SSH access and random scripts. It’s a open source CLI, all-in-one tool for monitoring, secure remote accces (tunnel and terminal), log forwarding, automated deployments. No exposed ports, or endpoint, everything is configurable how the user wants it. One use case that multiple friends are interested in is replacing HomeAssistant’s Nabu Casa subscription with tunneling through BeaconInfra. The cloud/control-plane part…

Hello HN! We've been working on a new hypervisor https://kwarantine.xyz that can run strongly isolated containers. This is still a WIP, but we wanted to give the community an idea about our approach, its benefits, and various use cases it unlocks. Today, VMs are used to host containers, and make up for the lack of strong security as well as kernel isolation in containers. This work adds this missing security piece in containers. We plan on launching a free private beta soon. Meanwhile, we'd deeply appreciate any feedback, and happy to answer any questions here or on our slack…

Hi, over the past few months I've been working on this project: Numax is a small Rust runtime that does three things: it runs WebAssembly modules in a sandbox, has a built-in local key-value store, and syncs everything across nodes with CRDTs and gossip. Basically, you write a wasm module, run it on two machines, and they converge (I hope !). It's a decentralized system... I hope someone finds it interesting! There's a whitepaper I've put a lot into, and I think the code isn't bad either! I believe there's still room in this world for software that's fun and well made, and while building…

Hey HN! Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on DataBridge, an open-source solution for data ingestion and querying across text, PDFs, images, and videos. In our latest update, we’ve added a fully local deployment option: - No internet required – Runs entirely offline. - Customizable Models – Supports any LLM and embedding model via Ollama (with options for any other private providers) - Extensibility – You can plug in your own models or tools easily. This local-first approach ensures better privacy, security, and flexibility, especially for teams dealing with sensitive data. You can…

Merry Christmas HN! Tinykit is a self-hosted, self-contained alternative to Lovable/Replit/v0 designed for building small personal utility and CRUD apps (basically a "tiny app studio”). It includes realtime/auth/files (via PocketBase), an embedded dev environment, content and design fields, automated backups, and an AI agent that can work across all of them. You can connect multiple domain names (or better, a wildcard subdomain) to build and deploy 100+ apps on the same server, each hosted at its own domain name. The builder/studio runs on the same Pocketbase…
