Hi HN, COVID lockdowns made me and my wife cook a lot more at home, and we had a need to streamline our recipe management woes. These were some of the problems we identified: - Most recipe websites are what I call "mommy blogs", and the principal problem is that the recipe ingredient list and instructions are buried in a SEO-laden essay that we don't care about. Hi HN! This started late last year as an afternoon project to play around with ElasticSearch, and then I kept thinking of new features I wanted to add. I still have a lot of things I want to build, but now seemed like a good time to put it out there: even if the results aren’t nearly the quality I’d like, I’ve still found it useful and I want to show it off! I’ve been working on it since September 2021, but only in fits and starts. The entire thing runs on a computer in my living room (there’s a picture on the About page); I haven’t done any load testing so we’ll see how it holds up.

I created a wiki which is intended to be a culinary encyclopedia. The idea came to me when I wanted to know about the culinary properties of rosemary–how it should be used, what culinary heritage it originates from, etc. The Wikipedia page for rosemary is too generic and not tailored towards culinary info. I was surprised that something like CulinaryWiki didn’t already exist. There is basically nothing here yet (except the Rosemary page). I wanted to show HN to see if other cooking enthusiasts wanted to contribute some pages.
