Hello! I got quite some feedback on a web server I'm building, so I'm rewriting the server to be faster and easier to use. I (and maybe some other contributors?) have optimized the web server performance, especially for static file serving and reverse proxying (the last use case I optimized for very recently). I also picked a different configuration format and specification, what I believe is easier to write. Automatic TLS is also enabled by default out of the box, you don't need to even enable it manually, like it was in the original server I was building. Yesterday, I released the first…

My cofounder and I run a startup in oncology, where we handle cancer genomics data. It occurred to me that, thanks to a recent complexity theory result, there's a clever way to run bioinformatics algorithms using far less RAM. I built this Rust engine for running whole-genome workloads in under 100MB of RAM. Runtime is a little longer as a result - O(TlogT) instead of O(T). But it should enable whole-genome analytics on consumer-grade hardware.

I love making small 2D pixel art games, especially using tools that have some constraints. Things like Pico-8 and the Playdate SDK are simple, fun, and allow for focusing on the game idea rather than the technical minutia. Years ago I prototyped an idea for this little game engine, Usagi, but used Rhai instead of Lua. The idea for this little game engine never went away, so I decided to finally dig in and build it. Today I released v1.0.0 of Usagi Engine after making a bunch of small games, getting feedback from developers, and stabilizing the API. It's simple, has a great developer…

I personally haven't event used or looked at Rust so I don't have an opinion. So now I'm interested hearing what others think? I think the syntax of Rust isn't very appealing, but that's not a good reason to /not/ look at it. Convince me? :)
