Hi HN! I built AI Baby Monitor – a tiny stack (Redis + vLLM + Streamlit) that watches a video stream and a YAML list of safety rules. If the model spots a rule being broken it plays beep sound, so you can quickly glance over and check on your baby. Why? When we bought a crib for our daughter, the first thing she tried was climbing over the rail :/ I got a bit paranoid about constantly watching her over, so I thought of a helper that can *actively* watch the baby, while parents could stay *semi-actively* alert. It’s meant to be an additional set of eyes, and *not* a replacement for the…

Hi Everyone, Digital Carrot is a programmable and pluggable app blocker. It lets you block websites and apps on iOS, Mac and Windows until a set of conditions or goal is met. For example you can block Reddit, Instagram and Steam until your Apple Watch reports that you have walked 5000 steps. The app works by collecting data via plugins that you can use to create goals for yourself. Goals are all represented by expressions that return true or false based on the data you provide. For example, if you want to create a goal to finish all of the tasks in your to-do list you could do something like…

Hi! I've been working on a child monitoring service and I'd really appreciate your input on it. The structure of the service is pretty technically interesting. It sets up a wireguard VPN on the child's Windows account, and then routes the traffic to our server. From there, we use mitmproxy to break open the TLS, inspect the packets, and then re-encrypt them. Currently all images are passed through an ImageNetV2 model, and for sites like reddit or google, individual links/communities are analyzed and we remove the content if it violates the filters without impacting the overall browsing…

I'm a father of two, 7 and 12. They are obsessed with Roblox, especially Rivals. Like a lot of parents, we did not love it. We tried the usual things: block it, limit it, set timers." It became a daily battle, a lose-lose situation. So I flipped the problem. Instead of fighting what they loved, I decided to lean into it, but with a twist. Why just play an FPS when you could build one together? My kids became the PMs. Claude and I became their engineer. I was shocked by how fast we moved. We picked a name, Cooked and started building. Get in. Lock in. Get cooked! In the first 3 hours, we had…

Hello Hacker News! We've been working on Convoy Playground [0], a tiny proxy and debugging tool which makes testing webhooks a breeze. If you've ever struggled with configuring or troubleshooting webhooks, we believe this tool will be a game changer for you. Convoy Playground provides a simple, intuitive, and powerful interface for testing, debugging and replaying webhooks. You can send HTTP requests to your specified endpoints, view and analyze the response in real-time, and even replay the requests as needed. The inspiration for this project came from the countless hours we've spent…

I got my 7-year-old daughter some Philips Hue lights strips for Christmas. Once installed, I realized it might not be a good idea to open up the entire HomeKit setup to her, but I did it anyway. Just two minutes later, the smoke alarm test went off! Happy holidays. A bit of research brought up some apps with "kid lock" features, but none felt simple enough to be kid-friendly. Fast forward a few days, and I just released a simple web app and server component. Feel free to give it a spin at https://github.com/tja/hue-picker
