I’ve been working on a puzzle game for a few years as a side project. The game is based on a small region of tiles in a grid that is mirrored, modified, and mirrored again. It’s based on a novel phenomenon I noticed where, once these mutations happen a few times, the original region can be hard to recognize. You have a feeling there are symmetries in the image, but they are just out of grasp. Going further, if only part of the region is visible, such as mirroring off the edge of the board, it adds to the feeling and it becomes a satisfying puzzle to solve. Ecocoru is a puzzle game where you have to solve compass and ruler construction problems. The game mimics compass and ruler and let you draw straight lines/segments and circles/arcs. You can also view and explore a solution for each problem. A basic knowledge of well-known results of Euclidean geometry is needed to play the game. The game has over 70 problems.The game is designed for full-screen mode and the use of the mouse.

Hi everyone! I'm the author of this project. I wrote it because I think that the math that makes characters move in games and movies is incredibly beautiful, and I wanted to give others a glimpse into it. It's crazy to think that quaternions, an abstract mathematical tool discovered by William Rowan Hamilton in 1843, would be so perfectly suited to solve hard problems in the world of 3D character animation more than a hundred years later. A while ago I discovered three.js, a JavaScript library to manipulate 3D objects. It looked really interesting, but I had no real need for it... To change that I recently challenged myself to make one 3D web game per month with three.js. I was fascinated by this [0] and this video [1]. After many struggles, I finally built this app that traces images using circles similar to what these videos had shown. The most challenging part (to me) is to find a way to convert images to vector lines. I had tried Potrace, but its output is not suitable for my use case: too many small elements share the same border. Potrace's goal is to represent the original image faithfully using vector lines. The idea for this pixel art puzzle game came from playing Triominos, and wondering what would happen if you replaced numbers with colors. A few mutations later, and it became a mobile game where you click a piece to turn it in place, to recreate pixel art. I built the basic idea in just over an hour on Twitch. Dev-wise, I used a homebrew Typescript game engine I created, called Booyah (https://github.com/play-curious/booyah). The graphics are all rendered using the awesome library PixiJS.
