As a grad student (and an ADHDer), I had trouble doing literature review systematically. To combat this, I made a website that finds similar papers using the meaning of the thing I am looking for. I used MixedBread's [^1] embedding model to generate vectors from the abstracts. I store and search similar vectors using Milvus [^2] and finally use Gradio [^3] to serve the frontend. I update the vector database weekly by pulling the metadata dataset from Kaggle [^4]. To speed up the search process on my free oracle instance, I binarise the embeddings and use Hamming distance as a metric. I would…

I made this, and it's fully open source so if someone wants to contribute here you have the url: https://github.com/Miguel07Alm/arxivtok. For this project I was inspired by https://wikitok.vercel.app.

Hey HN! I've always found it hard to keep up with the latest AI research, so I built Arxiv Feed! https://arxiv-feed.vercel.app/ It's basically a feed of AI research papers + a one-liner explaining what problem its solving, etc. You can also click on any paper to get a TL;DR. Right now, I've only indexed a few hundred large language model papers, but will expand to indexing AI papers in other topics. Thinking of also adding a way for people to up-vote/down-vote papers. Would love to hear any thoughts/feedback! :D Thanks!

I built this yesterday to help understand papers I'm interested in. It's using the gemini 2.5 flash lite model, but you can run it yourself[1] and switch to 2.5 pro for better results. Happy to answer any questions or take suggestions on how I can improve it! 1. https://github.com/montanaflynn/asxiv

So, I spend a ton of time on arXiv, like probably most of you. And while it's obviously amazing for keeping up with new papers, I always found the actual searching and browsing part a bit... clunky? Especially when you're trying to quickly figure out if a paper is even worth diving into. I got a bit fed up with it, so I ended up building this little web app called ArxivLens (https://arxivlens.com/). My main goal was to make it way quicker to skim papers and find what you're actually looking for. The big thing I added that I think is pretty useful is an AI overview feature.…

I’ve been using deep research on OpenAI and Perplexity and it’s been just amazing at gathering data across a lot of related and chained searches. Just earlier today, I asked “What are some marquee tech companies / hot startups (not including the giants like FAAMG, Samsung, Nvidia etc.)”. It’s a pretty involved question and looking up “marquee tech startups” or "hot tech startups" on Google gave me nothing useful. Deep research on both ChatGPT and Perplexity gave really high quality responses with ChatGPT siding on slightly larger scaleups and Perplexity siding more on up and coming…

Built an automated system to run a deep search of ArXiv and carefully find all the precise papers that exist on a complex topic. It's different from simple RAG because it searches, classifies, and adapts based on relevant papers it uncovers, and then continues until it finds every paper on a topic (trying to mimic the human research process). Benchmarked 10x higher accuracy and total retrieval compared to Google Scholar for a median search (whitepaper on website). Also knows when it is complete, and misses virtually nothing (< 3% or so, once it's converged). Website has a free trial and a…

As a researcher, I created SmartXiv to solve a problem I faced every day: keeping up with the overwhelming number of research papers uploaded to arXiv. With over 1000 new papers each day, finding the most relevant research was time-consuming and exhausting. I needed a smarter way to stay updated. What SmartXiv Does • Personalized Recommendations: Using advanced AI, SmartXiv analyzes your interests and sends you daily emails with research papers that align with your preferences. •Efficient Research: By curating the latest papers for you, SmartXiv saves you hours of research. • Fully…

We’re a startup called Scholastica(http://bit.ly/rSYdfa), an academic journal publishing platform and scholarly community. We applied to Y-Combinator Spring 2011, PG actually wrote us to ask us some further questions, but unfortunately didn’t get in. With that said, we didn’t give up and have an application with some traction. We’re completely bootstrapped and would love for you guys to check us out and hear your thoughts. Problem:Academics spend their time doing research, then have other scholars peer-review this research at an academic journal, then journals hand over the articles they…

Hi Hacker News! I’m a Bayesian statistician that has been working on applying hierarchical mixture models (originally developed for genomics) to structure text data, and in the process, used these models to build (what started as a personal) tool for conducting literature reviews and deep research. My literature review process starts with a broad search to find a few key papers/groups, and from there expands along their citation networks. I needed to conduct a few rounds of literature reviews during the course of my research and decided to build a tool to facilitate this process. The…
