Hiya HN, I built Scout, an AI code review tool that helps you learn instead of just patch code. Tools like ChatGPT or Copilot make it really easy to get working code. But it's also easy to skip understanding! You paste, it runs, you move on, hit the same bug again later. I remember the days when I looked on stackoverflow for help. Ever since the launch of ChatGPT, I had began to over rely on AI to do my coding and thinking for me... I knew AI was a valuable tool, I just had to find a way to use it well. For me that was with a simple Next app running off of localhost. I realized others might…

Hi HN, As a developer, I much prefer to write code than read other people’s code. But most projects I work on involve other developers so it’s hard to avoid. Often I find it really hard to quickly parse other people’s code so I thought maybe ChatGPT could help. ChatGPT does a really nice job of giving clear explanations when you paste in code and ask it to explain it. But the interface is a bit of a pain to use if you’re using it many times a day. It’s also hard to share explanations with co-workers. So I built whatdoesthiscodedo.com. Just paste your code and get your ChatGPT explanation and…

We’ve been working on Scout QA, a tool that uses AI to catch subtle bugs that usually slip past manual testing and reviews. Instead of focusing on test automation, Scout analyzes your app’s UI, flows, and logs to surface tiny inconsistencies — things like broken states, unclear error messages, or small regressions that humans might ignore because “it still works.” The goal isn’t to replace testers but to act like an extra pair of curious eyes — pointing out issues that affect real users’ experience. We’re exploring questions like: - How can an AI develop an intuition for “something feels…

PrompTessor▲125After countless hours of solo coding, designing, and iterating, I’m both excited and nervous to share my first-ever product: PrompTessor — now live. As someone who constantly experiments with AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, I often found myself stuck in a loop of trial-and-error. The issue wasn’t always the AI — it was often the prompt itself. That observation became the starting point for PrompTessor. This tool doesn’t just optimize your prompt — it analyzes it. It gives you: - A prompt score - A breakdown of strengths and weaknesses - A fully optimized version of your prompt - And…

Hey HN, We’re two developers (co-founders) with a team of 20 who got tired of spending hours reviewing PRs, so we built Infinitcode.ai, an AI-powered code reviewer that: - *Summarizes PRs in plain English*: No more deciphering 1,000-line diff jungles - *Catches more than bugs*: Security holes, performance pitfalls, code smells, even typos (yes, we’ll flag “vurnerabilities” and vulnerabilities) - *Zero onboarding*: Works instantly—no “let me learn your codebase for weeks” nonsense. Why we’re posting: We’re in alpha and need brutal honesty. Roast our tool, mock our UI, or tell us why AI will…

"Excited to launch CareerGPT.ai on Hacker news today! We're on a mission to help people ..yada...yada" No, that's ChatGPT's writing, not mine :) Folks, I was a PhD student once, in a non-home country, and just wished to know what was it like to go and work in the industry, being a programmer, or started a company. Torn apart between choices, I just wished there was a totally unbiased counselor to talk to. I couldn't do that with my supervisor since he always encouraged me to finish the thesis (of course). Heck, had ChatGPT exist back then, I would have had more infos and made decision…

Bindly▲76Hi HN, I’m a product designer by background, not a traditional software engineer. Over the last year, tools like Claude and ChatGPT completely changed how I work. I started with small internal tools, and now I’m “vibe coding” multiple highly personalized apps. As I iterated between Claude Code (implementation) and ChatGPT (ideation / thinking), I kept running into the same problem. To think clearly, I had to repeatedly re-explain: - what the code currently does, - what changed recently, - and why certain decisions were made. That re-summarization step became a real bottleneck. So I…

Hey HN, I’m Henry, cofounder and CTO at Span (https://span.app/). Today we’re launching AI Code Detector, an AI code detection tool you can try in your browser. The explosion of AI generated code has created some weird problems for engineering orgs. Tools like Cursor and Copilot are used by virtually every org on the planet – but each codegen tool has its own idiosyncratic way of reporting usage. Some don’t report usage at all. Our view is that token spend will start competing with payroll spend as AI becomes more deeply ingrained in how we build software, so understanding how…

Lately I've felt exhausted due to the deluge of AI/GPT posts on hacker news, and have seen similar grumblings. I threw together this frontend that filters out anything with the phrases AI, LLM, GPT, or LLaMa for use until the hype dies down a bit. Before anyone asks, yes I did try to use ChatGPT to help, and while the code it provided was helpful, it needed some heavy bug-fixing. Edit: One other note I forgot to mention. The favicon is generated by Stable Diffusion, I asked it to generate an "Aritificial Intelligence Favicon", and then I added the red circle with line through it.

I built this using semantic search and the ChatGPT API, which was just released the other day. What makes it special is it not only understands the code you're debugging, but also pulls in additional context like relevant documentation to help answer your questions and suggest code changes. Ultimately, my goal is to take the hassle out of pasting error messages into Google, finding a vaguely related StackOverflow post, and manually integrating the solution into your code.
