24 alternatives to SelfPubKit – write, publish, monetize books on your own
Hi HN, I made a tool for self-publishing authors called SelfPubKit.com. The all-in-one editor allows you to write chapters, export them to epub, pdf. You can also publish product as a standalone website with direct payments set up with your Stripe account which means you get 100% of payments minus Stripe’s fee. The idea came about when I wanted to write a short guide myself. Anyhow, let me know what you think. I’ll share tech details in the comment below.

Tapflow 2.0▲1,125We built Tapflow for devs, designers, PMs, and tech folks who’ve been sitting on internal docs, templates, and systems — but never productized them. Upload a PDF, notes, or workshop deck, and Tapflow drafts a structured product (with chapters, teaser and pricing plans). It’s good for AI kits, onboarding guides, design systems, and frameworks. You can sell through Stripe, LemonSqueezy, or PayPal. Real-time collaboration is in early beta. No site builder, no LMS — clean design and just focused tools to ship. Hi HN, Over the past 6 months I've been working on a technical book focused on helping aspiring data scientists to get hands-on experience with cloud computing environments using the Python ecosystem. The book is targeted at readers already familiar with libraries such as Pandas and scikit-learn that are looking to build out a portfolio of applied projects. To author the book, I used the Leanpub platform to provide drafts of the text as I completed each chapter. To typeset the book, I used the R bookdown package by Yihui Xie to translate my markdown into a PDF format. I also used Google docs…

Hi, I made a thing! This is by far the most work I've ever sunk into a side project; I've been working on this thing for over two years, and I'm super proud of it, even though there's still a lot more to do! Storyteller is a self-hosted platform for ebooks with synced narration. This is basically self-hosted WhisperSync, for anyone familiar with that Amazon product. It's currently made up of two self-hostable backend systems and a mobile app for reading and listening to the books it produces. Technically it uses an open spec, EPUB 3's "Media Overlay", for syncing the narration, but very few…

You simply: 1. Connect your device. 2. Create a top-level `handwritten.blog` folder. 3. Every new notebook in that folder becomes a draft on https://handwritten.blog/ I hope this eventually obviates the need to look at the ugly upload interface you have to use to now upload your writing.

We wanted to create, to express ourselves without being judged either by strangers or some algorithm. We wanted our own space on the internet, where our photos and words would matter. So we started to build an app that can showcase our content, without having to pick a platform. You can use Sora to publish a few different content types. - Blog - Polaroid - Poster - Microblog You can either display them all on your Sora profile as a summary (like mine https://topcat.sora.city), or put any of them forward for the world to see. We plan to run this app for a long time and looking for…

Hey everyone, I built Indiebooks.io . A free bookkeeping app that automatically organizes your finances and fills out CRA/IRS tax forms for you. It’s built for freelancers, indie devs, and small business owners in Canada and the US who want to stay compliant without spending weekends in spreadsheets. What it does - Tracks income & expenses automatically - Handles GST/HST, PST, QST (yes, even Quebec math) - Supports US taxes and state sales tax - Auto-fills CRA/IRS tax forms so you can just review and file - Lets you ask AI things like “What’s my profit this quarter?” - 100%…
