TLDR: I’ve made a transformer model and a wrapper library that segments text into meaningful semantic chunks. The current text splitting approaches rely on heuristics (although one can use neural embedder to group semantically related sentences). I propose a fully neural approach to semantic chunking. I took the base distilbert model and trained it on a bookcorpus to split concatenated text paragraphs into original paragraphs. Basically it’s a token classification task. Model fine-tuning took day and a half on a 2x1080ti. The library could be used as a text splitter module in a RAG system or…

This is a small plugin I made for Simon Willison's llm utility. You can do things like: cat names.txt | llm sort -q "Which one of these names is best for a pet seagull?" cat books.txt | llm sort -q "Which book is more related to basic vs. advanced CS topics?" I see a lot of potential marrying LLMs with classic UNIX interfaces.

I've been playing with embeddings and wanted to try out what results the embedding layer will produce based on just word-by-word input and addition / subtraction, beyond what many videos / papers mention (like the obvious king-man+woman=queen). So I built something that doesn't just give the first answer, but ranks the matches based on distance / cosine symmetry. I polished it a bit so that others can try it out, too. For now, I only have nouns (and some proper nouns) in the dataset, and pick the most common interpretation among the homographs. Also, it's case sensitive.

We built what we're calling "operational spreadsheets" – spreadsheets that can actually execute actions across external systems, not just calculate and display data. The core idea: spreadsheets have been passive tools for 40 years. You put data in, formulas process it, you export it, manually move it somewhere else, repeat. We added bidirectional API integration with natural language commands, so the spreadsheet itself can send emails, update databases, orchestrate workflows across services – autonomously. Think of it as the evolution from VisiCalc → Excel → Google Sheets (multi-user) →…

Paper (PDF): https://github.com/shudv/deltasort/blob/main/paper/main.pdf I’ve been exploring a variant of the sorting problem where the sort routine knows about which indices were updated since the previous sort. This situation arises in many practical systems: large sorted lists that are read frequently, updated in small batches, and where the update pipeline already knows which positions changed (e.g., UI lists, leaderboards). Despite this most systems either re-sort the entire array or apply independent binary insertions or perform…

We’ve been working on a search problem that requires querying both text and numbers simultaneously. For example, in a dataset of clothing items with descriptions and prices, a search for “slim pants for $20” should prioritize skinny jeans for $25 over slim pants for $50 because they are semantically similar and the price is closer. I’ve found that standard embedding models struggle with numerical ordering, while text-to-SQL methods rely on exact matches and often filter out too many results. To solve this, we built a system designed specifically for structured datasets like CSVs or tables.…
