Products that do what Silly website to earn badges for touching grass does
I started giving away badges on X to people who touched grass just for fun and most of them loved it! So I decided to create a whole website about it. Process is simple: - Enter X username / url - Fetch Profile image and choose badge - Generates a badge page which can be shared with nice OG images The site is deployed on Vercel, with R2 and Browser rendering for OG images and data storage.

Around this time a year ago, I forked and built Simple Badges on top of the Simple Icons website. Existing projects on this often try to manually maintain a single, huge Markdown file containing pre-assembled Shields.io badges for people to pick. I've been working on a CSS Sprite generator for a couple of weeks in my spare time. It uses HTML Canvas and JavaScript FileReader to open local images without any zipping or uploads, and tries to make the CSS generation as easy as possible. Yesterday we added a brand new badging incentive system to the Khan Academy. It's really simple for now, round 1, blah blah all that jazz. We're dealing with all types of internal debates about proper behavior to encourage and how users will respond. We've seen students in schools get extremely excited about very, very simple game mechanics attached to their practice problems/homework/etc, and building the roots of a deeper badging system seemed like an important next step to help us guide users through desired paths in the system. I built HackerBuddy.com with the idea of helping the Hacker News community get one-on-one help with fellow hackers that know their stuff. It matches up people that are good at a particular skill (Ruby on Rails, Python, beta-testing, general startup advice etc) with people that need that specialist help. All it does is swap your email address so that hackers can give fellow hackers one-on-one advice. I'm an indie dev and I built a community for creators to get together and collaborate with each other. Mostly for amateur creators, but some famous ones use it as well. It has about 700k users so far. There are about 100k of those users who don't bother to upload an avatar, so they've had a boring default avatar for nearly 7 years.
