Devbox is a command-line tool that lets you easily create isolated shells and containers. You start by defining the list of packages required by your development environment, and devbox uses that definition to create an isolated environment just for your application. In practice, Devbox works similar to a package manager like yarn – except the packages it manages are at the operating-system level (the sort of thing you would normally install with brew or apt-get). ohai! I've released Lightwhale 3, which is possibly the easiest way to self-host Docker containers. It's a free, immutable Linux system purpose-built to live-boot straight into a working Docker Engine, thereby shortcutting the need for installation, configuration, and maintenance. Its simple design makes it easy to learn, and its low memory footprint should make it especially attractive during these times of RAMageddon. If this has piqued your interest, do check it out, along with its easy-to-follow Getting Started guide. In any event, have a nice day! =)

hey guys. the other day i was migrating hosting providers and i just needed something not too heavy and convenient to spin up my backups for awhile and realised there is almost nothing out there. kimchi hasn't been updated for years and cockpit is heavy. so here's something i came up with in a couple hours because of a sudden urge, nothing fancy just basic creation with cloud init, lifecycle management and image/storage, but it's modern-ish and it compiles to a 8.4mb binary inclusive of the embedded web UI, CLI and API, and only dep is libvirt.

I've been frustrated with dependency hell and clutter on my VPS from dev, so I built Devbox: a lightweight, open-source CLI tool that spins up isolated development environments using Docker. Each project runs in its own container, but your code stays in simple flat folders on the host machine—no messing with volumes or sync issues. Environments are disposable, so you can nuke and recreate them without losing your work. Key features: - Instant setup: `devbox init my-project` and you're in a fresh env with `devbox shell`. - Configurable via JSON: Define packages, services, and more in a…

I wanted to play my Steam games but my aging PC couldn’t keep up, so I built Cloudy Pad - a tool to run Steam in the Cloud (GitHub: https://github.com/PierreBeucher/cloudypad) It runs on AWS, Azure, GCP, Scaleway and Paperspace with various cost optimizations and safeties: - Cost alerts - Auto stop inactive instances to avoid unwanted cost - Disk snapshots and data cleanup for cost efficiency - Spot instance support Under the hood: a Linux VM and a container running Sunshine (a streaming server https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine) with Steam. Most…

Hey HN! Pipedream is an integration and compute platform purpose-built for developers building workflows and connecting cloud services. You can author workflows without writing any code: Pipedream supports over 700 integrated applications (GitHub, Slack, etc) [1] and all connectors are open source [2]. In addition, you can write any Node.js, Python, Go, or Bash code within workflows, extending the pre-built integrations with your own custom logic. Since we launched Pipedream on HN [3], over 300k developers have used the product. Pipedream developers tell us consistently that they love the…
