Hello HN! I'm the creator and solo developer of Extension.js, a development tool for browser extensions with built-in support for TypeScript, WebAssembly, React, and modern JavaScript. Developers use it to spend less time configuring the compilation config or learning new frameworks and more time actually writing code. Most projects similar to Extension.js rely on some sort of abstraction or configuration to get started, making the initial development process slow given the extra learning curve and setup guidelines. By using Extension.js, adding the package to your npm scripts is all it…

I built a browser-native Unix environment - shell, filesystem, git, npm, node, vi, 200+ commands. Everything is JavaScript running client-side with IndexedDB for persistence. The whole thing builds to a single static HTML file (~420 KB gzipped). Try it: https://shiro.computer For interactive demos showing npm install, node execution, and git workflows -- running live in Shiro, not recordings -- see https://shiro.computer/show Source: https://github.com/williamsharkey/shiro P.S. `curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash` works.…

Hey HN, For years, my local development setup has been a fragile mess of tools that never quite played nicely together. On my mac, it was a constant battle with Homebrew services starting (or not starting) on boot, conflicting PHP and Node versions managed by `asdf` or `nvm`, and a collection of `docker-compose.yml` files that I'd copy-paste and tweak for every single project. The cognitive load was just too high. Setting up SSL was another chore involving `mkcert`. Sharing a quick demo with a colleague meant firing up ngrok. And if I wanted to run two projects that needed different versions…

I enjoy collecting various search engines, but some of them lack support for GET/POST searches and switching between different search engines can be a hassle. So, I developed this browser extension that enables automated searching on websites that don't support GET/POST through simulated input and clicks. It also offers one-click switching between search engines. Additionally, it highlights the searched keywords on the search results page. Lastly, it allows cross-domain data fetching and displays the information in a pop-up layer within the current page. GitHub:…
