I've always wanted a better way to explore the authorship data embedded in a Git commit log. I'm having fun building a CLI tool to do this. It's a bit like the "Contributors" tab on Github that shows you how many commits each contributor has made but much faster and with many more options. If you get a chance to try it out, please let me know. I'd love to hear feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

git-lrc▲300Hi HN, I'm the author of git-lrc, would appreciate some feedback from the community Last year my team started using AI coding tools more heavily, and we found ourselves generating tons of code, but spending less time looking at the stuff that's been generated. We felt like we were losing a bit of grip/understanding of what we were building. Regressions occasionally slipped through. Sometimes changes made it all the way to production only to be reverted later. We tried several AI code review tools, but most operate at PR time. That felt too late. I wanted review to happen while the…

Hey HN! We're Parth and Faza and we'd like to introduce you to Gitopia - https://gitopia.com/. Hey! I wanted to share a tool I've been working on. It's still very early and a work in progress, but I've found it incredibly helpful when working with Claude and OpenAI's models. What it does: I created a Python script that dumps your entire Git repository into a single file. This makes it much easier to use with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems. Key Features: - Respects .gitignore patterns - Generates a tree-like directory structure - Includes file contents for all non-excluded files - Customizable file type filtering Why I find it useful for…

Freenet's philosophy is "decentralize everything" and one of the things I've long wanted to apply that to is Git. The original Git concept was decentralized but for practical reasons most people use centralized hosting services like GitHub. For anyone unfamiliar, Freenet[1] is a general purpose platform for building decentralized systems. So I implemented a working prototype which already hosts the freenet-core repo, integrating as a git remote helper. It's still early so I'd greatly appreciate any feedback and will iterate quickly if there is interest. [1] https://freenet.org/
