One year ago I open-sourced my very first 'real' project and shared it here. I was a college student in my senior year and desperately looking for a job. At the time of sharing it i couldn't even afford a domain and naively let someone buy the one i had my eyes on lol. It's been a hell of a year with this blowing up, me moving to another country, and switching 2 jobs. In a year we somehow managed to hit 26k stars, grow a 1000+ person discord community, and support 37 languages. I couldn't be more grateful for the community that helped this grow, but now i don't know what direction to take…

Hey HN! We are Jonathan & Guy, and we are happy to share a project we’ve been working on. ChartDB is a tool to help developers and data analysts quickly visualize database schemas by generating ER diagrams with just one query. A unique feature of our product is AI-Powered export for easy migration. You can give it a try at https://chartdb.io and find the source code on GitHub. Next steps ---> More AI. We’d love feedback :)

From the company behind Dolt—the world's first fully versioned database—comes DoltgreSQL, which implements PostgreSQL's variant of SQL. DoltgreSQL is at a very early stage, and we have quite a lot of work left to do, but we'd love to hear all thoughts and opinions! I had already posted the project a couple of years ago, and it gained some interest, but a lot of stuff has been done since then, especially regarding performance, a completely new JSON store, a REST API, various internals refactored, an improved JSONiq based query engine allowing updates, implementing set-oriented join optimizations, a now already dated web UI, a new Kotlin based CLI, a Python and TypeScript client to ease the use of Sirix... First prototypes from a precursor stem already from 2005. So, what is it all about? The system uses ideas from ZFS (a keyed index trie, storing…

Hi HN, We have been building SyncLite, an open-source platform to simplify offline-first application development. If your application uses SQLite or DuckDB, SyncLite lets it continue using the local database as usual while synchronization happens in the background. For SQL-based applications, SyncLite records transactions into transactionally consistent .sqlog files using SQLite as an open replication format. A background consolidator replays those transactions, derives row-level CDC and schema changes, and applies them transactionally to destination databases like PostgreSQL. The same…

Last year we launched ChartDB OSS (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44972238) - an open-source tool that generates ER diagrams from your database (via query/sql/dbml) without needing direct DB access. Now we’re launching the ChartDB Agent. It helps you design databases from scratch or make schema changes with natural language. You can: - Generate schemas by simply describing them in plain English - Brainstorm new tables, columns, and relationships with AI - Iterate visually in a diagram (ERD) - Deterministically export SQL script Try it out here -…
