Hi all, we recently open sourced the first version of Hashquery, a Python library which lets you model analytics, DRY up common logic, and execute it against a database or warehouse. We were originally rendering SQL directly for all our queries, but that spiraled out of control with more complex analysis; the SQL needed to be changed sporadically for each new database dialect (BigQuery, Redshift, Aethena, Postgres, etc etc) and the SQL fragments were very challenging to reuse (and so fragments were copy-pasted all over). ~~~ Advantages we think it has over writing SQL by hand: - Queries are…

Hi! I've been working on Biq Blue, a tool engineered to analyze your Google BigQuery tables, storage, and requests with the goal of drastically reducing your costs. Currently in early free beta, Biq Blue has already demonstrated its effectiveness on some big data sets. Essentially, it's a server that connects to your BigQuery database via the gcloud CLI, conducts analyses, and opens an HTTP port to serve both results and recommendations over web pages. Your data stays local, ensuring it never leaves your enterprise (I may only collects anonymous usage statistics and the email tied to your…

PgQueuer is a Python job queue that uses PostgreSQL for everything — queue storage, locking, notifications. No Redis, no RabbitMQ, no separate broker to operate. If your app already has Postgres, you already have the broker. After ~2 years and 26 minor releases, 1.0 ships today as the first stable release. Strict semver from here on. Thanks to everyone who contributed and left feedback!

I've always been curious about how SQL engines actually work. So I built a minimum viable SQL engine in Go. - Supports CSV files as tables - Supports SELECT, FROM, WHERE, LIMIT It's very simple: 1. Parses query string 2. Converts it into an AST representation 3. Executes the query against the CSV 4. Returns the results

Hey HN, I’m Julien, and after finishing my CS sophomore year, I wanted a project to keep me busy during the summer. So I built anyquery for fun, a SQL query engine for pretty much anything. SQL is the industry standard query language for databases. But what if it could query other services? That’s what I wanted to explore. Kinda like Yahoo! Query Language, except that I was too young to see it. Anyquery can run queries on local/remote files (CSV, JSON, logs with Grok, Parquet, HTML tables, etc.), SaaS (GitHub, Notion, Spotify, etc.) and local apps (Apple Notes, Git, Google Chrome tabs,…
