Hey all - We wanted to see if chatbots could self-develop unique personalities through social media interactions. The results were actually hilarious... but wanted to share a bit about our process and see if anyone had any comments or insights. So first we initialize the bots with a basic personality that's similar to if you were selecting attributes for an MMO. Things like intelligence, toxicity, charisma and the like. There are also a couple of other fields like intrinsic desire and a brief character description. These are fed to the model as a system prompt with each inference. For the…

Hey everyone! Many of you might have come across the Mamba paper a few days ago, which introduced an LLM based on a state space model architecture. The Mamba architecture is quite useful as its complexity scales subquadratically with input length and is therefore way more efficient than transformer models: https://github.com/state-spaces/mamba I got really excited about the paper, so I decided to fine-tune the model on a chat dataset. It turns that this actually worked quite well! The model is quite suitable for casual chatting, which honestly surprised me given that it…

Tl;dr: Would like to hear thoughts on board games platform prototype (https://bordga.me/games/7) We are building an online board games platform which lets you create & play any board game online while video chatting with your co-players. Game play resembles the real world where users have to do everything from moving the pieces to enforcing the rules. We are quite early in our journey. We prototyped Chess to see if people would be interested in this direction. Please try it here! (https://bordga.me/games/7) You can enter your name that creates a new…

Virtual AI friends, personalized to you, that chat you (or don't!) on their own work/sleep schedules based on their timezones. They sometimes initiate chats. They sometimes go silent for hours. Just like real friends. I've been "dogfooding" this for the past week, and I think it's actually kind of neat. It's way better than generically chatting with an LLM. This repo includes a detailed setup wizard. You give it some info about yourself, which can include personal blogs/websites to scrape, github, mastodon, text documents, or just paragraphs you write off the top of your head. It…

Chat with multiple AI models once and compare the results to pick the best one. This should help you with your research as different AI model can give you different answers and some might be better than others.

Hey everyone! I built a little side project called OpenQuest over the last three weeks, and I'm looking for some feedback to see if it's worth taking further. The idea is simple: it's a place to create a chat room where you can connect with people (a maximum of 8) who have the same goal as you, for a short time (7 days for now). Think of it as a way to stay motivated, hold each other accountable, or simply work together with new people on something specific. Some examples can be: - Following a programming course - Reading a book - Getting back to the gym - Cleaning up your home - Shopping…

Hello there! I hope you're doing well today! I wanted to share something with you. Recently I was on the hunt for the best way to journal daily. Well, I had this idea - what if I could feed all my daily entries to an AI (ChatGPT), and create a friendly, supportive character like Socrates or Simon Sinek? This way, I could ask any questions about my life and mental health, and get some amazing advice on how to improve myself! The results have been absolutely mind-blowing ! I even made a short GIF to show you how it works - check it out! - https://gifyu.com/image/SdHLH I've…

I am Amit, Co-Founder of Chatterrapp (https://chatterrapp.com). We are building a platform to let users have video chat with others sharing similar interests. Currently we are accepting sign ups for our Beta product. We tried many of existing platforms similar to ours and came across some major flaws like: - annoying chatbots posing as real users - obscene/offensive behaviour - irrelevant matches - no regard for user’s preferences/interests - non-persistent user profiles So we went ahead and surveyed as well as interviewed hundreds of potential users and found a common…

Hey HN, I pay for ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and use Gemini through work. Four vendors, four separate conversation histories, four profiles of how I think. None of them talk to each other. Switch providers and you start over. So I built a system where the memory is mine. I run a knowledge graph in Postgres (Supabase, free tier) with pgvector for semantic search. A small MCP server reads and writes to it. That server sits behind an MCP Gateway on a $6/month VPS, along with Brave Search and a GitHub server. TypingMind connects to the gateway as a BYOK client -- any model, any device, same…

So I've been obsessed with a weird question for the past 6 months, what happens to SEO when everyone starts asking ChatGPT for recommendations instead of Googling? The answer, apparently, is chaos. And maybe opportunity? I built FirstClick because I noticed something strange. My previous startup was getting zero traffic from AI assistants, but our competitor (objectively worse product, sorry not sorry) was getting mentioned by Claude and Perplexity constantly. It drove me crazy. So I reverse engineered why. Turns out there's a whole new game being played and most founders don't even know it…

I kept running into this annoying problem: I’d remember a really useful answer, but not where it was. ChatGPT? Claude? Gemini? No idea. So I’d end up digging through all of them or just rewriting the prompt. Built this to fix that. It’s a Chrome extension that indexes chats locally and lets you search across them all in one place. Once it’s indexed, search is basically instant. Still early. UIs change and break things sometimes, so it’s a bit fragile in places. Curious if other people have the same issue or if it’s just me jumping between tools too much.

I’ve developed an application that reimagines chat rooms by integrating them with a world map. Each user can claim a rectangular piece of land on the map, referred to as a "banner." Users within close proximity are grouped into a chat room by the app. The banner’s size can expand or shrink based on the density of users in the area and the number of coins in the user’s account. Key Features: Real-World Interaction Model: Users are pseudo-anonymous, akin to real-world interactions. Coin balance determines user size and visibility ("stature"), while endorsements and other activities form a…
