Hey HN. Eric Seidel here (former lead of Flutter & Dart at Google, prev. YC S06). I founded Flutter and led the team for almost a decade. One of the constant questions we got was would we support code push like the web/react native: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/14330 I left Google about a year ago and set out to build a company around Flutter and decided to start with code push. It took us a year to build. We had to build a new toolchain for Dart and a custom interpreter (for store compliance). But it works! Our beta has already been used by…

Hi, I made a bridge (https://github.com/fzyzcjy/flutter_rust_bridge v2.0.0) between Flutter and Rust, which auto translates syntaxes like arbitrary types, &mut, async, traits, results, closure (callback), lifetimes, etc. The goal is to make a bridge between the two, seamlessly as if working in one single language. Then, as an example, I showed how to write Rust applications with GUI by utilizing Flutter. That is discussed in the link in details. To play with it, please visit the GitHub repo, or refer to the end of the article for detailed folders and commands. When I…

Hi HN! I’ve been working on getstack.dev[1], a tool to help developers track GitHub open-source trends, tech adoption, and repository stacks — updated weekly. About a month ago, I broke my leg. While stuck on the couch, I figured I’d put the downtime to good use and finally build a side project I’d been thinking about for a while. So I put together an MVP and decided to release it publicly to gather feedback. I have always struggle to grasp how people are adopting technology and what's really hype or under the radar. As tech leader you also often want to know if your tech choices are the…

This proof-of-concept project combines: - Flutter, from Google; - ClojureDart, port of Clojure to Dart from Tensegritics; and - Matrix, a reactive framework from moi. So, yes, we can now program Flutter with a Lisp. Yay. Project includes dozens of working examples and a full implementation of the TodoMVC classic to help tire-kickers play around. Support installing freely available on the #matrix channel on the Clojurians Slack.

Over the past couple of months I've been working on a TUI framework heavily inspired by Flutter, written in Dart. The API is modeled after Flutter. StatefulComponent, setState(), Row, Column, Expanded, ListView. There have been some discussions about performance of TUIs recently, and I think Dart is actually a great language for writing TUIs in. It compiles down to fast native code, is cross-platform, and has great developer ergonomics. JIT compilation for development (which enables hot reload) and AOT compilation for production binaries. What's really cool is stateful hot reload. If you…
