After posting tinypdf here, someone opened an issue asking for Word/OpenOffice support. I understand - sometimes you need an editable document, not a PDF. I didn't want to extend the library itself, so I built tinydocx: <1K lines of TypeScript, zero dependencies, 7.7KB minified+gzipped. The popular docx package is 108KB with 5 dependencies. Hello HN! I've been playing a lot with https://hyperscript.org/ recently (not to be confused with the other hyperhype hyperscript). I threw together a quick Wordle clone in an evening to see what it would look like using this language. The main functionality that is missing is checking for invalid words. Hi HN, I’ve been experimenting with how much file conversion can realistically be pushed into the browser. Last year I tried compiling LibreOffice headless to WASM. The smallest build I could get was ~150MB — far too large just to convert a DOCX to PDF. That’s when I shifted to a hybrid approach. Today ~90% of conversions run client-side using WASM (FFmpeg, PDF/image tooling, spreadsheets, etc.). The heavier edge cases fall back to a small server pipeline (LibreOffice, Pandoc, Poppler).
