I love the looks and UX of the Google calendar. But I wanted to have a version I could use more freely in my own projects, still looking similar to the one from Google.

Hello, For quite some time, I've been unsatisfied with the built-in timers on both Android and iOS; especially for workouts, when I needed to set up a configurable number of series with rest periods in between. That's when I started thinking about building something myself. It was just a timer and I said to myself "how hard could it be?", I had no idea. The first iteration of the project worked "just fine", but the UI was an eyesore (even more than it is now), and the UX was quite awful as well. As you can probably guess, I'm not versed in design or front-end development. In fact, my last…

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been building a timer web app for myself that I use for workout and stretching sessions. My main use-case is gym routines that consist of repeatable sequences, e.g. where you are holding certain positions for a set time (rinse and repeat). The app counts down the program, beeps, and reads the activities out loud. Two things (I suppose) are special about it: - The timers are “programmable”, so you can freely express your own routines and procedures in a declarative notation. - The app is all static (no backend): the entire program is encoded in the URL and…

I've never posted on ShowHN before, but I wanted to share my Xmas 2025 project; to try a new approach to controlling our kids screen time. This also involved massively over-engineering a solution in order to play with a shiny new gadget (and avoid the in laws at Christmas, obviously) I've shared some learnings on AI coding with embedded devices, and how I approached the product design/hardware selection side of things. The Web App is at https://screenie.org - and I'm Open Sourcing the device and web app code later today (links to follow on that site)

Hey Hacker News! To test implementing AI (and paywalls tbh) in software for the first time, I made this simple calendar creator (no mail address required) that lets a person create a calendar based on his needs and availability and export it to his calendar app, pdf or receive a daily newsletter with his daily tasks (and more). After wrestling with different models (f.e. with huggingface) and encountering different problems, I decided to use ChatGPT's models, tune them a little and see how the result works out. ChatGPT's low price enables me to give users the opportunity to create calendars…
