Products that do what Unofficial Google Lens OCR API does
Default OCR in ShareX is pretty bad, so I reverse-engineered Lens API and made a library to call unofficial Lens API and made a script for ShareX to OCR the captured region. URL points to library I've made, there's a tutorial for ShareX in separate file: https://github.com/dimdenGD/chrome-lens-ocr/blob/main/SHAREX...

Here's an introduction to the Go SDK for Veryfi API that the team and I have been working on. We're gonna walkthrough a problem (having thousands of backlogged receipts) and solve it together by leveraging the Go SDK. Let me know what you all think. https://veryfi.com/go

Hey guys, I made an image sharing website somewhat like Unsplash. I would like to hear your thoughts on it please. https://lensflare.cf/

Hi HN, I built an AI-powered OCR API designed to extract highly structured JSON data from complex documents like global passports, IDs, receipts, and shipping containers. We recently rolled out our Python and Node.js SDKs. Just wanted to share it with the community.

Hey everyone, I recently built a free Chrome extension called Formula to LaTeX that lets you convert any formula from an image, screenshot directly into clean LaTeX code. No signup. Just: 1. Paste or drag & drop an image of the formula 2. Get the LaTeX code instantly 3. Copy it with one click It works great for math, physics, and chemistry formulas, super helpful if you're working on problem sets, papers, or presentations and don’t want to retype complex equations. Would love any feedback! I'm still improving it, so feel free to roast it or share ideas

Hi HN, I run a small ecommerce shop and, until recently, spent way too many evenings copy-pasting supplier invoices into Excel so my books stayed clean and my expense tracking was granular. It finally hit me that I’d rather invest that time in code than in Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V, so I built ParsePoint.app. Why I built it • Manual invoice entry was swallowing 4 hours every month. • Accounting software APIs felt heavyweight for my use-case; I really just wanted clean rows in a spreadsheet. • I love tinkering with AI models and needed an excuse to spin one up in production. What it does 1. Upload a…

Hey everyone, I was doing some tests with Gaussian Blur and the 2D Gaussian formula. While writing code for the formulas (I'm just trying to learn new things, that's all), I wanted to see LaTeX formulas in my IDE as images or in any convenient way. However, I couldn't find any proper method, such as writing LaTeX as a comment and seeing them as images, etc. So, I started to create my 2-step project: a LaTeX-to-image website & plugin for my IDE. I've completed the first step of this project. I've created a website called https://pictotex.com/ I didn't return to this project due…

Hi HN, I made CopyLasso for text you can see but can't select: things like scanned PDFs, text in videos, and text in screenshots. I was surprised to find only a few solutions for this that were all paid, so I made a free and open source version. CopyLasso is a native Swift app built with ScreenCaptureKit and Apple Vision. It's MIT-licensed, signed, and notarized. To use it, just press your keybind and draw a bounding box around the text you want to copy. The text is recognized locally and copied to your clipboard. Other features include copying QR codes and barcodes, multi-language…

Built an iOS app that runs a local OCR server using Apple's Vision Framework. Creates a REST API endpoint accessible from any device on your network. No cloud services needed - everything processes locally on the phone. Available on App Store (searching "OCR Server"). Would appreciate feedback on the architecture or similar mobile-as-server projects you've seen.

Hey HN, we are releasing IRPAPERS to answer a highly pragmatic question: when building a RAG pipeline over PDFs, should you OCR the text or just embed the raw page images? Processing PDFs in production usually involves stringing together brittle OCR heuristics. While recent multimodal embeddings (like ColModernVBERT or ColPali) allow you to skip OCR entirely and retrieve directly from visual layouts, we wanted to measure if the computational overhead is actually worth the utility. The short answer: Transformer-based image pipelines won't be perfect for every use-case, but they fix exactly…
