Hey HN, I'm building Uncloud — a lightweight clustering and container orchestration tool that lets you deploy and manage web apps across cloud VMs and bare metal with minimal cluster management overhead. After several years of managing and extending Kubernetes at a unicorn, I realised that I desperately needed a change. All those abstraction layers, unnecessary complexity, boilerplate… I wanted container orchestration to bring me joy again, the way Ansible did when I first tried it a decade ago, or Docker after that. That’s when I decided to start an experiment that is now called Uncloud.…

Infrastructure as code (IaC) often fails during deployment due to dynamic constraints such as name collisions, quota limits and other resource-specific constraints that devs run halfway into an IaC deployment. We witnessed this first hand at TinyStacks and built precloud - an open-source framework to define and run dynamic tests before IaC deployments. The precloud framework currently supports Terraform and AWS CDK with several default checks (unique names, service quota checks and more) and ability to define your own!

For the last month or so I've been working on bewCloud, and today I'm making its source code public and open! Right now, the Dashboard (URLs + freeform notes), News (RSS/Atom/JSON feeds), and Contacts (CardDav) are working. If you have any suggestions, comments, or recommendations, I'd love to hear it. Thank you for your attention and kindness. I really appreciate it!

Hi HN, I'm excited to introduce onctl, a lightweight tool for provisioning and managing virtual machines/instances. It's designed to be cloud-agnostic, working seamlessly across cloud and on-prem environments without relying on cloud-specific solutions. Key highlights: VM-focused: Supports only VM management, keeping things simple and efficient. Uses simple SSH scripts: Under the hood, onctl operates using straightforward SSH scripts, making it easy to understand and customize. Ready-to-use templates: Start quickly with pre-defined templates for common use cases. Examples include: K3s…

We built it from the ground up, minimal Linux based operating system (written in go and rust), messaging system written in rust and infrastructure as code support (terraform and pulumi) There is even a dashboard, and a playground UI to manage it (that you can even run yourself) . Beautifully decentralized, you have full control of everything, you can deploy on your own servers if the cost of the cloud is too much. You can even run the whole system yourself if you want to. Here is a link to documentation https://manual.grid.tf/ Also, we are honored if it piqued your interest,…

We have been working on Multy, an open-source[1] tool that enables developers to deploy and switch to any cloud - AWS, Azure and GCP for now. We realized that, even when using Terraform, writing infrastructure code is very different for each cloud provider. This means changing clouds or deploying the same infrastructure in multiple clouds requires rewriting the same thing multiple times. And even though most core resources have the same functionality, developers need to learn a new provider and all its nuances when choosing a new cloud. This is why we built Multy. Multy is currently…

Hey HN – We’re Danny and Ethan from Telophase (https://telophase.dev). We’re building automation to isolate cloud environments by tenant or team. You can think of us as an Open-Source AWS Control Tower[1]. Our CLI is a drop-in tool to manage multi-account AWS setups. To start, we support AWS Account Factory and landing zones defined in AWS CDK. We plan to support multi-project GCP and multi-subscription Azure setups soon! Features: 1. Manage accounts in code. 2. Provision accounts and their infrastructure with a single command, `telophase deploy`. 3. Deploy to a subset of accounts…
