Products that do what Userscript to Display Age/Karma of HN Users does
Small script to display account age/karma next to all usernames, so you have that info available to you without clicking through to someone's profile. Opus 4.6 written, it's a mess but it works :) Using with Tampermonkey on Firefox.

Very opportunistic toy project as I saw the domain was up for grabs: 'at.hn' is a little site where people can have their own subdomains for whatever their HN username is (opt-in only by adding a slug to your bio). It doesn't really do much. Just shows your HN bio rendered as markdown plus meta stuff. I'm thinking of adding an aggregated user listing on the homepage so people can explore profiles. There's a bunch of interesting people on HN but discoverability is a bit longwinded. I'm wondering what other features people want. Otherwise shall likely leave it as-is. I remember hnbadges was a…

We just shipped a new feature in NextDNS: Bypass Age Verification. More and more sites (especially adult ones) are now forcing users to upload IDs or selfies to continue. We think that’s a terrible idea: handing over government documents to random sites is a huge privacy risk. This new setting workarounds those verification flows via DNS tricks. It’s available today to all users, including free accounts. We’re curious how the HN community feels about this. Is it the right way to protect privacy online, or will it just provoke regulators to push harder? https://nextdns.io

The use of the em dash (—) now raises suspicions that a text might have been AI-generated. Inspired by a suggestion from dang [1], I created a leaderboard of HN users according to how many of their posts before November 30, 2022—that is, before the release of ChatGPT—contained em dashes. Dang himself comes in number 2—by a very slim margin. Credit to Claude Code for showing me how to search the HN database through Google BigQuery and for writing the HTML for the leaderboard. I was looking for some fun project to play around with the latest Gemini models and ended up building this :) Enter your username and get: - Generated roasts and stats based on your HN activity 2025 - Your personalized HN front page from 2035 (inspired by a recent Show HN [0]) - An xkcd-style comic of your HN persona It uses the latest gemini-3-flash and gemini-3-pro-image (nano banana pro) models, which deliver pretty impressive and funny results. A few examples: - dang: https://hn-wrapped.kadoa.com/dang - myself: https://hn-wrapped.kadoa.com/hubraumhugo Give…

TLDR: Build a quick HN profile to see how little context LLMs need to personalise your feed. Rate 30 posts once, get a permanent ranked homepage you can return to. Our goal was to build a tool that allowed us to test a range of "personal contexts" on a very focused everyday use case for us, reading HN! We are exploring use of personal context with LLMs, specifically what kind of data, how much, and with how much additional effort on the user’s part was needed to get decent results. The test tool was a bit of fun on its own so we re-skinned it and decided to post it here. First time posting…

Hello friends, It probably exists or someone made it before but I couldn't find it so I created one myself. I also noticed people check each other's profiles often so this might come in handy. Screenshot of the usage (ignore the red arrow it doesn't come with the extension): https://imgur.com/a/gvJ93ne This Chrome extension does one simple thing. If you want to check the user information listed in the profile including username, creation date, karma, and about. You just need to hover over the username. I was clicking on users before and it was a waste of time I thought…

humble-hn is a Chrome extension that hides the number of votes and comments of stories, and the karma of users on Hacker News. The objective of this extension is to remove the influence of these numbers on the perception of the content.

So I'm not an expert in this area, but here's an attempt at cost effective, anonymous, age verification flow that probably covers ~70% of use cases in the United States. The basic premise is to leverage your bank (who already has had to perform KYC on you to open an account) to attest to your age for age-restricted merchant sites (pornhub, gambling, etc) without sharing any more information than necessary. Flow works like this: 1) You go to gambling.com 2) They request you to verify your age 3) You choose "Bank Verification" 4) You trigger a WebAuthn Credential Creation flow 5) gambling.com…

Hi everyone, I made a commenting system that accepts submissions via email, instead of requiring a login. The back story is I wanted some interactivity for my site/blog, but I felt like requiring a signup wouldn't be a good UX. I'm looking to get feedback on it from the HN community. Please feel free to ask questions and let me know your thoughts, especially what you don't like about it. If it's a decent UX then I would like to make it OSS, as I feel that it could potentially fill a void, especially for beautiful small websites. Here's the basic flow of data: 1. When the site is…
