Products that do what VoiceForms 4000, my submission to the Wufoo API contest does
Hey guys, Just finished up hacking on my submission for the Wufoo API contest. VoiceForms 4000 takes any existing Wufoo form and turns it into a phone survey. The app is written in Python, runs on App Engine, and uses Twilio for all the phone magic. https://voiceforms4000.appspot.com/ Go ahead and fill one of the sample forms and tell me what you think. Enjoy.

Hey HN! Braden here, creator of Whispering, an open-source speech-to-text app. I really like dictation. For years, I relied on transcription tools that were almost good, but they were all closed-source. Even a lot of them that claimed to be “local” or “on-device” were still black boxes that left me wondering where my audio really went. So I built Whispering. It’s open-source, local-first, and most importantly, transparent with your data. Your data is stored locally on your device, and your audio goes directly from your machine to a local provider (Whisper C++, Speaches, etc.) or your chosen…

Hi Hacker News! I’m David Huie. I’m launching SpeechOS, a drop-in voice input SDK for web apps. I was inspired by Wispr Flow and wanted the same workflow inside business apps (CRMs, docs, forms, support tools), not just a standalone tool. It’s saved me a massive amount of time vs typing. How it works: add a couple lines of JS plus an API key, and SpeechOS shows a small mic widget on every text field. Live demo: https://www.speechos.ai/ (Click a text box and the mic widget appears; click the gear icon to see settings, custom vocabulary, and snippet configuration.) Users can: -…

I wanted a voice-to-text app but didn't trust any of the proprietary ones with my privacy. So I decided to see if I could vibe code it with 0 macOS app & Swift experience. It uses a local binary of whisper.cpp (a fast implementation of OpenAI's Whisper voice-to-text model in C++). Github: https://github.com/richardwu/openwhisper I also decided to take this as an opportunity to compare 3 agentic coding harnesses: Cursor w/ Opus 4.6: - Best one-shot UI by far - Didn't get permissioning correct - Had issues making the "Cancel recording" hotkey being turned on all the…

I built a little script that gives me a fake phone call to escape boring and awkward situations. I bought a virtual number from twilio and saved it as one of my relatives. Whenever I feel stuck, I just tap a button called “ESCAPE” on my phone. It sends a request to my remote server. The server runs a small Python script which schedules an actual call. After a minute, my phone rings and plays a pre-recorded audio. I simply say “sorry, I’m getting a call” and walk away. A tiny project, but it has saved me so many times. Script -…

I built Whispering because I believe transcription is too fundamental a tool to be locked behind paywalls. It's a cross-platform desktop and web transcription app that turns speech into text with a keyboard shortcut, among other things. The app lets you bring your own API key (OpenAI, Groq, etc.) and make direct calls. If you want complete privacy, it also supports local transcription. Either way, your audio never goes through any middleman servers. It's super lightweight (~22MB), built with Svelte 5 and Tauri, and works on Mac, Windows, and Linux. I've been using it daily for the past few…

I've developed a simple AI-powered British accent generator. Enter or paste your text, select the voice that best fits your project's tone, and generate speech for free. It supports up to 500 characters and offers 8 distinct, lifelike voices. Everything runs entirely within your browser. I'm primarily seeking feedback on output quality, user experience, and any technical improvements worth exploring.

Hi Hackernews, we're Maitreya, Prateek and Marmik. Over the past few months we've been working on building a platform to build, scale and monitor voice based LLM applications. Demo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSrOmyR7oQs) 1⃣ Open Source orchestration: We're open-sourcing our orchestration to quickly setup and create LLM based voice driven conversational applications https://github.com/bolna-ai/bolna/ 2⃣ Hosted API Platform: Exposing our managed solution via APIs to build voice driven applications…

I have a bit of phone anxiety, and have a ton of dread around making phone calls to restaurants, banks, doctors, and so on and on. I thought: AI could do this with a web form turned into a prompt. Stack started out simple -> using 11labs for voice + claude + twillio, but it actually got rather complex (even though I tried vibe coding most). First off, finding the phone numbers quickly is hard. This is done by scraping the web with some basic duckduckgo search and structure with openai calls. Second, collecting the right information. I’m still struggling a bit with this but the architecture…

Hey HN! I've been working on a side project to create an audio transcription API based on the OpenAI whisper model. Sign up link: https://whisperapi.com I tried to make the API really easy to use and get setup with. Also, because the Whisper model is so good, turns out I can offer the service for about 75% cheaper than what seems like the industry average. I'm always looking to make improvements, so would appreciate any feedback anyone has!
