We launched an API for custom hostnames today. A simple HTTP post with a hostname gets a temp hostname with CNAME/a record instructions, as soon as DNS is setup we issue SSL and start accepting traffic for that hostname. It's the quickest way we know of to provision custom hostnames: https://fly.io/mix/custom-hostnames/ When we started building Fly, we figured it was too late to "make SSL easy and the customers will come". Lets Encrypt changed the world, and we knew many companies rolling their own SSL support with nginx, Traefik, etc, etc. It seemed like a…

Hello fellow hackers! I'm excited to share the launch of WhoDB by Clidey. We are hoping to redefine the user experience with database management. Going away from the LLMs hype, we really just want to make developers' lives better! I built LDNS because I'm constantly curious about domain names - who owns them, which nameservers they use, how they're configured, and what their DNS records reveal. I wanted a fast, easy way to investigate domains right from my browser without juggling multiple tools. LDNS runs entirely client-side using Cloudflare's DNS over HTTPS. Just type a domain and instantly see: All DNS records with clickable filtering RDAP/WHOIS data with registrar info and expiration dates Email security configuration (SPF, DMARC, MTA-STS, BIMI) Export options (JSON, CSV, BIND zones, PDF reports) Try it at…

I found out Cloudflare has a DNS over HTTPS api via 1.1.1.1 resolver, figured I'd make a small tool out of it, as somene who keeps checking domain names for side projects which I never build, this kinda helps me look for something. It's not fully accurate, because it returns unavailable even for parked pages, which technically are available, but works for me. It just checks for A records via this endpoint https://cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query?name=${domain}&type=A Just make sure to pass this header - "application/dns-json"

Open your Terminal / Console / sh prompt and type the following: whois aol.com whois google.com whois microsoft.com ... etc. Can anyone explain why WHOIS/Verisign can't prevent this? I found some explanations but none of them made much sense.
