24 alternatives to Write SaaS apps where users control where their data is stored
Hello HN, I would like to share with you linkedrecords.com - an open source backend as a service I'm working on since some time now. You can think of it as an firebase/convex alternative with an interesting twist. In 2018 I needed to write large software requirements/architecture documents in Google Docs. While I was annoyed by the limitations of Google Docs back then (no captions on figures, no automatic heading numbering, slow when docs are bigger,...) I was still fascinated by the real time collaboration features of it. So I've started a quest to understand how it works and I…

LinkedIn feels more like Facebook every day — noisy feeds, fake engagement, and everyone shouting into the void. Thats why I used to built a personal microsite on Squarespace and uploaded a video resume to YouTube to stand out - it helped me land interviews and get into Big Tech. But I always wondered: why isn’t there a platform designed to help you stand out like that? So I built OpenSpot: a public, curated platform where you can showcase who you are — with video, audio, and proof of your work. No endless feeds. No humblebrags. Just real people open to new opportunities. We’ve already…

Hey there HN! We’re Joe and Stopa, and today we’re open sourcing InstantDB, a client-side database that makes it easy to build real-time and collaborative apps like Notion and Figma. Building modern apps these days involves a lot of schleps. For a basic CRUD app you need to spin up servers, wire up endpoints, integrate auth, add permissions, and then marshal data from the backend to the frontend and back again. If you want to deliver a buttery smooth user experience, you’ll need to add optimistic updates and rollbacks. We do these steps over and over for every feature we build, which can…

Hello everyone! At a company I worked for, we needed to develop an MVP (basically a web page) and apply certain business logic to a Google Drive spreadsheet that was frequently updated by the Sales team. In this case, we had two options: Develop a backend to replace the current spreadsheet and have the sales team use it as a new "backoffice" - This would take a very long time, and if the hypothesis we were testing was wrong, it would be time wasted. Create the web page and use Google's SDK to extract data from the spreadsheet. We chose to go with the second option because it was quicker.…

Hey HN! Happy to finally launch Stack. We made it because we like to put apps into production quickly, and authentication & user management was taking up way too much time. We have components like and that automatically adapt to whatever theme & design system you're using. Check the blog post to see the example with Radix UI and Joy UI. Also, there's an admin dashboard for monitoring and editing accounts. Stack is 100% AGPL/MIT-licensed, so you can self-host it. Cheers!

UniDeck▲359Hi everyone! For the past few months we have improved upon our product called UniDeck, an app that allows you to connect different services and monitor their data. From every day services like Google and Github to your in-house api and tools, everything can be connected to a single dashboard and shared with your team for easy access, monitoring and collaboration. We have worked hard in the past 6 months since our previous launch to add a lot of features work on user feedback. UniDeck now has first class support for more than 15 services and has advanced widgets including tables and charts…

Sync-in▲79Hi HN, I’m happy to announce the public launch of Sync-in (https://sync-in.com) — a secure, open-source platform to store, sync, organize, and collaborate on files, without compromising privacy. Sync-in wasn’t born from a business plan, but from a personal need: being able to access my files remotely, share them easily with family or colleagues, and protect my data — through a clean, responsive, and user-friendly interface. Over the past 10 years, it has evolved and matured to support individual, team, and organizational workflows. You can host your own workspace to organize,…

Hey HN! I built Typebase, a library that gives you Convex's DX with Supabase's openness. After trying Supabase I liked how fast it is to spin up a DB and auth, but really didn't like using RLS and SQL for authorization. With Convex I loved how your server "lives" in your code, but disliked the DB model and the realtime-first defaults. With Typebase you just write TS files inside a typebase/ folder in your existing repo. You can define your DB tables inside a schema.ts file and export server functions that your frontend calls like local functions, fully typed. Auth is built in. Then one…

Hi all, I'm currently validating an idea for a new BaaS solution which will allow you to build and host a web app backend without writing a single line of code. The app is called BackendLab and the landing page is here: https://www.backendlab.app/ The idea is that it allows you to define your database models by specifying what fields to include and BackendLab automatically creates a CRUD API which you can start using straight away. We've just launched the public beta and are looking for early adopters (free of charge, just looking for some feedback on the tool) Looking forward…
