Usually, I would start exploring a codebase with grep. This is easy to start with, but most migrations end up accumulating additional requirements like ensuring the right packages are imported and excluding cases which don’t have a viable migration path. Backstory: I wanted to play with intraday stock data but couldn't find a free dataset anywhere. IEXCloud [1] offers API access to 1-minute granularity intraday historical price data, but I was worried that it could get expensive or unwieldy to build up a substantial dataset via API calls. Plus, IEX gives out their raw data for free. Current AI-assisted CLI tools are often part of larger systems and work better on Linux. I built llm-term to address these. It's a Rust-based tool that compiles into a single binary file. You only need to download the binary, add it to your PATH, and configure your OpenAI key to get started. While llm-term offers an option for gpt-4o, it works great with gpt-4o-mini. I often find myself in situations where I need to extract some data from a website, either as one time thing or periodically (and then watch for changes).
