Hey all, I built this. It’s not trying to capture every autistic experience (that’d be impossible). It’s based on my own lived experience as well as that of friends on the spectrum. I'm trying to give people a feel for what masking, decision fatigue, and burnout can look like day-to-day. That’s hard to explain in words, but easier to show through choices and stats. I'm not trying to "define autism". I’ve gotten good feedback here about resilience, meds, and difficulty tuning. I’ll keep tweaking it. If even a few people walk away thinking, "ah, maybe that’s why my coworker struggles in those…

Hi, I’m Chris, one of the co-founders of Shimmer. Last October, following my ADHD diagnosis, I launched Shimmer (https://shimmer.care), one-to-one ADHD Coaching for adults. Our HN launch was here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33468611. A quick recap before I dive into our new launch: Shimmer is an ADHD coaching service for adults. We took apart the traditionally expensive, inaccessible ADHD coaching offering ($300-600+/session) and redesigned it from first principles. You get matched with one of our expert ADHD coaches, meet weekly over video, and get…

As someone with ADHD, depression and on the autism spectrum, I get in my head A LOT. Every time I run into an issue I create a tool for it. - I should post on Hacker News, but my app is not good enough > challenge my inner critic. - I want to binge eat instead of working > use the catch the urge feature and follow a strategy - Task is too overwhelming > task breakdown and copy the tasks to my notepad - I really don't want to get started on a task > procrastination solver Would love your feedback and any questions are welcome :)

Over the past few years I've struggled to find good/trusted resources for things that might be useful to those with ADHD. Common issues with other sites were: * Very limited options and/or info, or products that weren't actually useful. * Blog post or news articles like "top 10 things to help with your ADHD" often had limited info or didn't have enough context to be useful. * Unclear if some authors had ADHD or experience with ADHD. In some cases you could tell a random writer got assigned this post to write, but had no idea what ADHD is really like. * Walls of text or…

Hi HN! First time posting. I created a tool for my Autistic son who is in high school junior battling severe ADHD symptoms. His difficulties include; 1. Time blindness 2. Lack of executive functioning skills 3. Task initiation issues These three were severely affecting his grades. We had a consultation with a Developmental Psychologist who prescribed Concerta that improves his ability to focus in class. In addition he also has the boilerplate ADHD accommodations(2X time on tests and quiet place to take the test). These collectively improved his test taking abilities. But, when it came to his…

I’m Chris, one of the co-founders of Shimmer. In 2022, following my ADHD diagnosis, I launched Shimmer (https://shimmer.care), a 1:1 ADHD Coaching for adults (HN launch here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33468611 ). One problem we discovered while running 1:1 coaching is that people weren’t able to actually follow through (in real life) on the ideas they came up with during their weekly sessions with their coach. There is a concept called body doubling that’s popular within the ADHD community—it’s basically getting things done in the presence of other people.…

I'm the developer of this small mobile app, and I'm seeking constructive feedback and people to try it. I'm writing the app because my folks have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
